Should holding/clinching be more harshly penalized?

Alot of fighters(Floyd/B-hop/wlad for example) seem to do this constantly especially later in their careers to basically stop their opponents from having any offensive success in the fight. It makes the fights boring and gives clinching fighters such a massive advantage. They should start penalizing them quicker and more often. Not only would it make the fights more fair they also be far more enteraining

It totally depends. If it's a fighter that I like, (Hopkins, Carlos Molina, Wladimir), then it's totally ok and up to the opponent to make them fight. If it's a fighter I don't like (Mayweather, Ward, Calslappy) then it's a spoiling, cowardly act and they should immediately be deducted points and get disqualified for fighting like such a b!tch. 👍🏼

How much clinching is ok though? Quick, tactical clinching just after a combination ok? What about when a fighters hurt/dazed?

 

Infighting in the clinch shouldn't be overly penalised, it's a genuine skill that shouldn't be removed from the sport.

But spoiling via clinching where one fighter is simply looking to prevent an exchange of punches, this should be more heavily penalised.

I think tactical retreat clinching is fine/safe. However basing your fight style around clinching is should not be rewarded or ignored.

That's because it totally depends on if the general viewing public likes a fighter or not. If the crowd favorite is doing it then it's fine. If it's the other guy, then he's spoiling and should be penalized.

Yes, one clinch allowed per round, per fighter before points are deducted. Maybe allow additional clinch(s) per round if the offender is recovering from a knock down.

 

I think if its all on one fighter it should be penalized but sometimes both men are at fault

I think referees need to let fighters fight out of clinches at first

So many times one fighter has a free hand and is punching with it and they break it

Refs should let them naturally fight it out

Then if it becomes a problem get in and break them quicker

I like what Reese did in Ward vs Rodriguez, it was a terrible clinch filled fight then he threatened both with a harsh penalty and it turned into a boxing match and not sumo.

I just think refs should be consistent

 

Clinching should be limited to a specific number per round. Wlad got away with nearly 200 hundred sessions against Povetkin in return for a single point deduction. That **** should have been disqualified instantly.
