Well, I think I was right. 550K may not seem too bad, but Floyd is getting $38 mill regardless so it should be a money loser for anyone else involved. This is like a Johnny Depp bomb, when he gets $10mill and the movie loses money for its' investors. Johnny and Floyd buy new houses, and the investors take a bath that they didn't need.
K2 has done a tremendous job with GGG. Kovalev who is on the same skill level and has fought better competition is definitely less popular.
The total fight purse was under $4.5 mil, so they are still on the plus side compared to loss in case of Mayweather vs Berto.
The purse for Mayweather and Berto was $36 million. The purse for GGG and Lemieux was $3.5 million. :think
Why do people care about this stuff? One side jumps up and down if a floyd fight doesnt do well, the other jumps up and down if a GGG fight doesnt do well. ....I thought this was a boxing fans site, not a Sports network marketing fan site.
Because it what people in a boxing forum will do. We are fan of the sport and discuss all aspect of it, therefore knowing the underlying reasons why one fighter fought an other or didn't, etc. Those numbers are lower than what I expected. Still, GGG is one of the top guys, with R. Gonzalez and Kovalev (and maybe Lomachenco) that are ruling boxing right now.
