Like someone else said the other day.. GGG fans worry about what Ward should do for his legacy and ignores GGG's even though Ward's is way better recent wins or not.. Everyone couldn't wait until Floyd retire because he never challenges himself, but don't want GGG to challenge himself.. GGG is predicted to KO everyone in his division...

He could beat those guys without having to gain so much muscle.

First of all, Cotto is a JMW, not WW. Second of all, he rules the MW division only in your imagination. He hasn't even fought at the full MW limit, and he pees in his pants when he is asked about fighting GGG.

It's not that a DONT want him to fight Ward- because I do- I just want GGG to do what's best for his career and what makes sense. Right now, I want him to become undisputed at 160 before he decides to move up to 168. I don't want him to have to travel up to 168 and back down to 160. It may be hard on his body, so I prefer him finishing all business at 160 first. Finally, I want it be in the future to allow Ward to build up his name, get back down to 168, as GGG also continues to grow his brand, so the fight can be even bigger and better and more financially rewarding for both fighters.

The problem is he probably won't get Cotto or Canelo, so why stay at MW? He could continue to beat up on guys that have no chance against him or he could fight Ward. I rather him fight Ward but I am speaking as a fan of boxing and not as a fan of GGG.

You don't know that, no offense.

It's GGG's team who is in deep discussions with WBC and have full awareness of the Canelo/Cotto, WBC situation- not any fan. If they're staying at 160 - as they say they are - then there's a reason for that. They're self-assured, and they will get that WBC title one way or another. They won't stop until they do, and fans/media have begun to get behind them on that.

So, it's really unfair to say "Well he won't get them" because they know better than us since they are the ones actually in discussion. And as far as Sulaiman and GGG's team are concerned, they ARE getting the winner or the belt.

Do you think GGG would KO Canelo or Cotto? If so, why do you as a fan care to see an easy KO? Everyone wants to see good fights unless it's their favorite fighter.. Then they just want them to win preferably the easy way...

Why would I as a fan not want to see him win and be crowned as THE deserving lineal MW champion? This is his natural division and I want him to solidify his career here before looking up.

(sorry I'm responding in place of her, but I couldn't resist).

The problem is that most people aren't consistent or rational in their opinions or their explanations of them. You are on this issue for the most part, I know. But most aren't. Most have particularly been vocal about other situations which would contradict any rationalization of their stance on this issue.

For what it's worth, I do completely agree with you. I'll be happy to point out things and support the overwhelmed and outnumbered argument of the two, but in the end I have long agreed with your take. Tough to think less or higher of either Golovkin or Ward when it comes to their negotiating through the media and directly contradicting themselves verbally and through action of the last year or so.

    Two reasons:

    1) Because a win over the winner of Canelo/Cotto would send GGG's appeal into crossover super star-dom, potentially

    2) Because I want and he wants to become the undisputed champion at 160 before going up at 168. In order to do that, he has to go through the Cotto/Canelo winner. If they or stripped or give up the belt, that's fine. But he needs the WBC belt from them.

Yep, and even if Ward moved up and it didn't work out, he's got his 168 credentials to back on, GGG also has some of it but it's incomplete, of course he could move down but fighters don't seem to do that very often. So in that sense, it'd make more sense for Ward to do it than GGG, though I don't expect him to any more than I do Golovkin, establishing a more impressive career in your natural weight class - there's nothing wrong with it at all.

And yeah, there's certainly LOADS of hypocricy that I noticed myself regarding this issue.

Didou - "..there's certainly LOADS of hypocricy that I noticed myself regarding this issue. "

The thing is, if we start to use same logic to Ward, Ward should not fight at 168 because he is expected to win other belt holders (Or fans should not talk about fighting someone top10 or top5 SMW). Instead, we should demand him to fight Kovalev or Stevenson. But that is not really the case, is it?

I want to see GGG vs Ward, but GGG has opportunity to unify MW that´s a great thing for the sport and for him. Meanwhile, If Ward feels unifying SMW is not worth it, he can do what he has done the past 3 years or he can look for the challenge and fight champions of his own size and make his own legacy and money (Kovalev, Stevenson, Berbetiev).

I wouldn't mind GGG vs Ward eventually. Dude obviously has an agenda he's trying to push through at MW before he moves up tho, and it's his career and his decisions to do it, so who can really fault him? People can claim he's ducking Ward, but I don't think he is necessarily. I think he's just looking for the big money fights for now.

Plus realistically, GGG would need a few tune up fights at 168 to test the waters. Who knows if his power, his biggest asset (next to his immaculate footwork) drops off moving up? It just seems like a bit too much of an inconvenient hurdle to do when he finally has opponents and a bit of a gameplan at MW.

Plus I think Ward and GGG, on tape, are pretty equal levels in skill. But Ward has a good size advantage over GGG. And a good big man is always gonna beat a good small man.

But then this is all irrelevant, and anyone who likes X and hates Y is always gonna like X and hate Y and you'll never sway their opinion, no matter what you put in front of them and this board will always be full of circular double standard arguments between one group and the other.

Look at FMJ, Pacquiao, Klistchko, etc. All certified ATG's years ago. But people will always move the goal posts and find something new to criticize them over.

I'm a fan of both fighters. I think he shouldn't move up for 2 reasons. One he has unfinished business at middleweight, if he moves up now, nobody will look back at his reign as a middleweight titlist and think he was a great middleweight. He needs to beat the winner of Cotto/Canelo, he needs to complete his mission at middleweight.

The 2nd reason I don't want him to move up is, he'd lose. Yes I said it, Ward would school him. There are a lot of negatives about Ward, his skills is not one of them.
