Im not convinced he beats Saad, Galindez, Qawi and EMM, let alone Spinks, Charles, Moore, Foster, Jones,Tunney, Johnson, Conn, Rosenbloom etc
Who knows? Has ATG power and hasn't really shown any serious weaknesses...Maybe he loses to all of the guys who've been named or maybe he beats them all.
I tend to agree with your list,...but remember, that Kov is still a work in progress. I don't believe for a second that we've seen the best of him yet.
Kovalev is a tremendous boxer puncher with smarts. His timing and accuracy is excellent which allows him to track down and take out faster fighters. We do not know how good his chin is yet. Its not glass, but it has not been proven to be stone either. If its really good, few are going to beat him. So who beats him?! I think the ATG who beats Kovalev is going to need to have excellent durability as few are going to be able to take his power shots. Either that or Bob Foster like power. I’m fairly certain Kovalev would overwhelms the technicans and speedy boxer types without a lot of power in ( Johnson, Conn, Rosenbloom ) KO’s those with suspect chins ( R Jones ), and likely defeat those who like to go to war without the best chins.
At least 20? I doubt that. One of the odd things about comparing active fighter to those who have been retired for 50 years is this. If you watch boxing today you know and have seen far more about the active fighters. In some cases there isn't any film or very limited film on boxers pre 1960. Yet some are sure guys 50 years ago were better! The other thing is historians tend to discount losses to fighters pre 1960. They should not. Today one loss and so and so is over rated!
I just think he can be beat to the punch by better fighters. He's very good but looks beatable to me. He's not boxed an elite prime fighter yet.
His power and skill can't be questioned. But his chin and stamina have yet to be tested in my opinion. He went 12 rounds with Hopkins on cruise control without having to really exert himself and the vast majority of the light heavys he's beaten have very little power. I don't think I'd favor a 38 year old Adonis Stevenson over him but he at least has the type of punch and tenacity that could pose a threat. Prime versions of Spinks, Moore, Foster and Galindez would make for some interesting challenges.
