Can anyone think of fights where a mobile fighter was slowed down more than usual because he took hard body punches in the early-to-mid rounds? Commentators always emphasize the importance of this strategy but I can't help but feel that its effectiveness gets seriously exaggerated.

As I recall it, Nunn looked slow/didn't move as much as usual throughout the fight. I'll have to watch that one again some time.

Yeah, Watson definitely ran out of steam. I thought that Taylor slowed down more because of the (surprising) damage from the head shots though.

Duran-Bizzaro and Duran-Fernandez (the Fernandez fight espeically). Julio Cesar Chavez vs Frankie Mitchell and Lonnie Smith.

This is mostly based on memory though.

Eubank-Watson first fight. A weight-drained Eubank takes left hooks downstairs from the first round, and by the 10th is all over the place.

I'd be inclined to agree, but as he was urinating blood for quite some time afterwards I'd guess the body shots took their toll

I suppose it depends on what you mean by slowed down. The major thing in that fight for me was early in the fight Nunn kept Toney at bay with his output and reach. The body shots dropped Nunn's output and the snap in his punches, giving Toney a chance to slip and counter.

I meant slow down their footwork and mobility around the ring. I'm sure it happens but the way commentators talk about it is just a minor pet peeve.

Looked to me like the plaster to the face slowed Cotto down.

Khan-Peterson, Duran-Leonard. Floyd takes/was taking a lot of steam of his opponents with his jab to the body.
