It was the most bizarre single handed beat down I have ever seen in a boxing ring.

I was surprised neither the corners nor the referee ever bothered to stop the fight by round 5 when it was clear that one fighter was just not doing anything at all and was recieving punch after punch, jab after jab, upper cut after upper cut.

Tyson had even told his corner by the end of round 7 that enough was enough but they didn't let him quit.

I think he just laid down eventually in round 8, he took so much punishment in that fight, the last punch was nothing in comparison to what he took throughout that fight. If he really wanted to get up he could have but it was clear he was just like oh **** it.

Anyways I thought it was pretty inhuman by the corner and the referee to not stop the fight a lot earlier. I am even more surprised that version of Tyson even got allowed to be even be in the ring given how bad he was in his previous fight against neilsen

Definitely, the fight should have been stopped when Tyson took a knee after taking the uppercut to the eye. Like you said, can't believe his corner didn't stop it after he was crying out in pain and basically saying he had no choice.

Actually technically speaking that wasn't a knock down, his knees never touched the floor. All the knock outs weren't knock outs, you aren't allowed to push a fighter down.

You know what I mean, his knees buckled and you could tell he was thinking of going down.

yeah Tyson definitely wanted out of the fight earlier when he knew he was outmatched but he gave up on that and went on with it. The thing is, Tyson was always smart in his way, he realised pretty quickly where it was going but I think he just resigned himself and decided to go out on his shield. It probably should have been stopped earlier so agree there. He did himself a major favour going out like that rather than biting Lewis's kneecaps off though.

It was a weird fight anyway, should never have happened really, Tyson was a circus by this point and it annoys me to this day that Lennox tries to take any form of credit for it, he aimed this at the mainstream fans so they would say he was always better but even they knew Mike was spent. I admire Lewis but there are some things about him that irk me.

How would this Lewis have fared against Tokyo Buster.

I think Lewis would go into Destroy mode and take Douglas out early. If he tries to box him he would have big problems but I think his strength would get to Douglas late.

Lol Lewis will always have these question marks, the major names on his resume like holyfield and Tyson (especially) were spent forces. He desperately needed the Tyson name on his record, Tyson didn't really need lewis at all in their fight, he desperately wanted a pay day but Lewis on the other hand needed the fight to add a desperately needed name to his resume.

His victory over Vitali has question marks and the way he backed out from a justified rematch was just so unwarrior like.

Bottomline is that great champions don't need to constantly bark and talk on interviews about how great they were during their time and to having to constantly remind people what they did, nor do they have to constantly have to carefully plan their legacy to the finest.

Tyson can go into a room and stay silent and watch everyone else go on and on about him. He just did what he did during his time and era without any planning and that's that.

The current boxing scene desperately needs a Mike Tyson again for revivals. The likes of klitschko s were perfect replacements for lewis.

The connect stats in this were astoundingly lopsided.

    Tyson was outhit like 4:1.

Busters mom dying motivated him to super human level for just that one night. He was literally not scared of dying. Lewis would have his work cut out with an opponent like that.

Not scared to die? He almost quit after getting knocked down, I'm sure he thought about staying down.

Buster was sensible and took a few seconds to regroup, not his fault the ref messed the count up.

How did he almost quit? He claims he was just angry at himself for getting him and being off balance and that he was paying full attention to the referee and the count, if the ref counted faster he would have got up quicker.

This wouldn't change if even Lewis was there instead of Tyson.

I know all that but I've always had the feeling he was kinda hoping the ref would wave it off because they usually do when getting up that late.
