Mayweather's PPV drawing power not exactly what you might think

floyd did not sell that total ppv alone. it was more to do with the market. the mexican's command the highest buys in ppv. as long as floyd fights on their holidays with latino fighters on the undercard, they will buy coz they just love to watch fighting sports and not dancing, running, and hugging. so any top level latino fighter with good undercard will get high ppv sales on mexican holidays especially if well promoted. not a good number of americans support floyd and buy his ppv.

 

400,000+ buys in a fight nobody... Not even Berto's mama thought Berto was going to win is remarkable. Especially when EVERYBODY knows he'll fight again sometime in 2016.

Well a lot of people tune in hoping that Floyd lose. No one thought Berto would beat him. So that's one of the reasons the numbers were low. Also that fight was barely marketed. Most people didn't even know about that fight.

but he also did 400k with rios... & bradley is not unknown. If floyd lost his numbers would die.. and yes the berto fight was always going to do bad.

It always takes 2 fighters to make a great ppv number... you have to remember guys like pacquiao are icons in their country's... the whole country shuts down to watch his fight... american fighters don't get that treatment because the country's so large and they have so many sporting icons...

there is no denying though that if you compare opponents and ppv numbers between floyd and pac, floyd always does better.

floyd did better with de la hoya, hatton, cotto, mosley...the only common opponent manny did better was with marquez and the ofcourse have fought many times and got a big rep for being good fights...

 

Floyd's PPV drawing power is directly related to his opponents. He cannot do well on himself alone. It is mostly his opponents PPV drawing power that matter in the equation. His highest numbers are against Pacquiao and DLH who are PPV kings.

 

So what your saying is mayweather's opponents all draw big ppv numbers when not facing Mayweather.......... Oh wait.

 

that's actually incorrect. he drew ok with Bradley, yes. but he drew under 400k for both the Rios and Algieri fights. This is Floyd's worst PPV in around 10 years, and it's still better than 99% of any other PPV not Floyd Mayweather's. I would say that this PPV proves even more that he is the biggest draw in the sport, and that of course his opponents had something to do with the number, but the majority was people paying to see him either win (fans) or lose (haters)....

 

This selling on the PPV merits of Floyd alone is expected to do anywhere from 400k-550k. Even at the low end, it's higher than any PPV that Canelo did w/out May, It's higher than Pacquiao's PPV's with both Rios and Algieri, It was higher than Cotto-Martinez. Basically any and every PPV needs a selling point, but when 4 of the top 5 PPV's have the same common name, at some point you have to stop lying to yourself saying nobody pays to see him. DLH and Pac have great ppv numbers, but the top 3 PPV's are:

Mayweather-Pacquiao: 4.4M
De La Hoya-Mayweather: 2.5M
Mayweather-Alvarez: 2.4M

Are you sure DLH and Pac are the PPV kings, lol

 

And if if was a fifth, we'd all be drunk, lol. That's all speculation. Pac did well in his PPV's because everyone built him as the fighter who can beat Mayweather. His next fight, if he should fight again, and it is PPV won't even do better than the low end 400k. Bank on it. The world now knows the truth.

 

Are you aware that only North America spend big money on PPVs ? Some say they are the only one stupid enough to pay for the Mayweather **** .
