Sums it up nicely (this and the original post listing the fighters' relative strengths). Assuming that Bowe is in peak condition, early 90s Bowe dominates early 90s Lewis. Later Lewis might be able to use his seasoning to win an ugly fight though.
If this fight ever happened, I think people would be shocked at the beating Bowe would receive. Barring Lewis doing something stupid, the fight is his to lose.
I didn't say Bowe had a great defense. Bowe was too polished. Lewis would have to beat up Bowe all night. Don't see that happening before Bowe gets to him. Bowe was too relentless in brawls. Lewis wasn't gonna outbox Bowe like Biggs, Holy, or Tubbs even. Lewis was too clumsy pre Steward and would get outclassed and stopped. Post Steward whether Lewis comes out aggressive or timid hes gonna pay for it. Bowe will get rocked no doubt. In a firefight I like Bowe. I'm a Lewis fan too. I was about 18 when he beat Tyson, and even though Mike was past it a couple of friends and me were like holy **** he beat Tyson, he has a great resume, best of his era perhaps.
If you were to only watch Bowe/holy 1 you would think Bowe would have a good chance at beating anybody in history. I always wondered if maybe stylistically he just had evanders number, because his record otgerwise is not all that great, and he struggled with a few less than great fighters. Of all the heavyweight fights that never were including fantasy fights, this one would top my list, and they could have met in their PRIMES. What a shame.
enjoy and agree with most of your points MKK :rasta but I disagree with you about Bowe and LL :bbb imo LL would of beat Bowe straight up ether by tko or ud :hat
Lewis's genetics were superior to Bowe's. Imo,,,,, Lewis hit harder and was faster than Bowe. Bowe had heart inside the ring, I will give him that no doubt, without it he would of totally sucked, Bowe was a over rated yankee, love the yanks, no offense but in Bowe's case it is true:deal Bowe had 3 great fights with a younger Holyfield. It is great but it is 3 great fights against one guy.
If it were a question of who would win from 1996 onward then I'd favor Lewis. But I'm not sold on who'd win a 1993 meeting one way or the other. Both had incredible strengths and both had glaring weaknesses at this stage.
Bowe was an extremely weird fighter. He put up one of the most impressive performances in HW history in Holyfield I and then just instantly lost it. By 96 he was completely washed up. Goddamn.
He was still good in 94 and 95. He made short work of guys like Hide and Gonzalez who were looking pretty menacing in the pros up to that point. And the Golata bout was the result of a variety of factors.. Eddie Futch had since left his camp and Bowe's training devotion went down hill. And the dirty tactics of Golata didn't help in those bouts either.
