we're all familiar with the Ring Magazine P4P top ten, this is a list that very much bares resume and lineal weightclass rankings in mind meaning many prospects or possibly avoided fighters are not included or as high as they could be. Post your top ten fighters regardless of current resume based purely on fighting ability not taking accomplishments into consideration. Here is mine: 1. Vasyl Lomachenko 2. Guillermo Rigondeaux 3. Andre Ward 4. Manny Pacquiao 5. Genandy Golovkin 6. Roman Gonzalez 7. Sergey Kovalev 8. Terence Crawford 9. Saul Alvarez 10. Nicholas Walters
That's actually what the original definition of P4P was. If all were the the same height/weight who would win? Nowadays it has become more a resume regardless of weightclass thing.
Interesting question. Except that is impossible to judge fighting ability not "taking accomplishments into consideration".
Based on h2h ability within their division it's so hard ranking. Wlad has to be up there because no one can touch him. Cruiser is a poor division. Light heavy has kovalev and Stevenson SMW has Ward and DeGale MW has Golovkin, Cotto and Canelo LMW has noone, Lara isn't as good as we thought. WW has Bradley, Garcia, Pacman, Brook LWW has Crawford LW has no one at all. SFW has Garcia and Walters FW has Lomachenko and Russell SBW has Rigo BW has Yamazaki (totally forgot his name but you all know who I mean). Small divisions have Gonzalez and Inoue. Those are the guys I consider to be the most skilled today. Ranking those is tough. I'm gonna go for the following: Crawford Ward Gonzalez Garcia Canelo Inoue Wlad Kovalev Stevenson Golovkin as a top ten.
Stupid thread. I think Lineras looks good when he fights. Let's have him as p4p number 1.. I also like the way Usyk and Felix Veredejo fight despite their competition. There goes my p4p top 3
A top 10 ranking of a division isn't just a list of "who would win." It is a ranking based on accomplishment. Often times the unaccomplished prospect ranked 8-10 enters a step up fight against a top man in the division yet is favored by the vast majority. That doesn't mean they were ever ranked above them. So it seems logical that a P4P list would be the same. I prefer it that way because it at least challenges someone to remain consistent and also assesses what has actually occurred as opposed to opinion of talent. What you describe is what the term "H2H" is for, or more specifically "P4P H2H," yes? Either way, a listing in this manner is also highly flawed as it doesn't factor in styles. Perhaps I feel Rigondeaux beats Kovalev but loses to Ward while Ward beats Rigo but loses to Kovalev. How would one possibly "rank" that on a P4P list using your and this threads' criteria?
Good list. 1. Devon Alexander 2. Zou Shiming 3. Hekkie Buddler 4. Gabriel Campillo 5. Kell Brook 6. Daiki Kameda My top 6. It's pretty solid. And impossible to argue inconsistencies or disagree with, using this threads' criteria.
1. Lomachenko 2. Rigondeaux 3. Ward 4. Gonzalez 5. Klitschko 6. Usyk 7. Kovalev 8. Pacquiao 9. Golovkin 8. Beterbiev In terms of current. Pac is a HOF but not ATG level fighter atm.
And for many on this forum that is how it will go. Credit to you for setting your emotions aside, I guess?
