its been a few years now since the mgm gym opened but imo it hasnt really worked, i am really struggling to see where the success stories have been for them! stephen simmons, iain butcher are 2 scottish lads that have went backwards since training over there. just watched brad saunders and i really rated him amateur and thought he would take to the pro game with ease but since heading over to mgm he too has gone backwards and gets disqualified against a kid that has been beat against every other kid he boxed on our shores. matthew macklin, tom stalker another 2 that have failed to shine when training over there. the only success story of sorts is derry mathews. could it be the people hanging around the gym? or is it the lifestyle they become accustomed too with the sun, sea and nightclubs etc or could it be the coaches at the gym just arent top quality? id never heard of seamus macklin before and although i had heard of danny vaughn i havent seen him improve any fighter or take a fighter from start to finish in their careers. i think its a mix of all the things mentioned but maybe there is other fighters that train exclusively at mgm that have done well? what are your thoughts on this?
**** gym, **** trainers, **** name making it seem like there's some sort of connection between it and vegas Wouldn't be surprised if it's some money laundering drug business
Let's be fair there's absolutely loads of distractions in marbella, somewhere a bit quieter would have made a better spot IMO. That and maybe the guys from there just aren't that good?
Lee should handle him, IMO. God help Billy if he does win the title. Cotto, GGG, Quillin would all wipe the floor with him.
I heard the gym is involved with a loada gangsters. Anyway any fighter who goes over there for training camp always seem to be ****ed after a few rounds. They obviously don't train very hard over there. That's why I was delighted when I heard billy joe was over there I'm camp for andy Lee fight. Being a massive andy Lee fan of course.
yeah but he goes over with his own coaches from london and they just use the facilities etc. billy joe isnt permanantly based there.
Pretty sure Degale goes over there as well. Only for a couple of weeks though. And we all know he lacks stamina.
I've had no direct dealing with MGM Marbella, but there input in Scotland has put a buzz into Scottish boxing, which can only be a good thing, my fighter David Brophy is promoted by them and everything they've said they'd do for him they have. What more can the fighter ask for, it's not a promoters/managers fault if the boxer doesn't produce on the night is it?
MGM is run by an Irish gangster. Is it any wonder that most of the boxers who go over there are Scouse scallies or gypsies?
Great shout from a proper ****house. Go Billys gym an meet him. Or come meet me in Liverpool, ideally at Derry's gym. All talk, dont like people getting beat up, but looks like you need it to learn some respect. Now either **** or get off the bog you ****head :good
