He's only halfway there, and 29 isn't young for a flyweight.

He'll be on 56 by the end of next week (he's on the Buitrago/Knockout undercard) and could easily fit another one, if not 2 in by the end of this year.

He may not be young but I can't see anyone else even close to the figure.

...then again who knows what Ali Raymi will do!

Should be fun. I just rewatched Maestrito Lopez vs Campas, forgot how good that fight was! Talent laid to waste (Lopez):-(

Effective this coming Sunday, it will have officially been a year since Campas fought - perhaps signaling his long journey has finally come to a close. :think This will mark the first time since 1987 that Yori Boy has gone a full year without a ring appearance (his record layoff is 10 months, and even that long only a few times)

    Final record: 103-17-3 (79)

    ¡Buen trabajo, chingon!

    Notable achievements:

    • Mexican national champ at 147lb (3 defenses)
    • Handed touted amateur prospect (and Michigan Golden-Gloves winner) Roger "Stingray" Turner his first pro defeat. Turner was 22-0 and coming off victories over Floyd Mayweather Sr. and Darryl Lattimore.
    • Knocked out former champ Jorge Vaca.
    • Reached a mark of 56-0 (50) before incurring his first defeat. Eat your heart out, Mayweather! :tong
    • Gave young unbeaten Felix Trinidad hell and knocked him down early, and was up on the cards when stopped.
    • Defeated the newphew of Dick Tiger (and Nigerian Olympian) Charles Nwokolo.
    • Knocked out Raul "El Diamante" Marquez to claim the IBF world 154lb title.
    • Made three successful title defenses.
    • Fought gamely & competitively with another young unbeaten phenom in Fernando Vargas before getting stopped. (Harold Lederman had El Feroz up 69-64 as of the corner retirement, but Campas was still landing spiteful jarring punches of his own in the waning seconds of the seventh and standing up to Vargas' best even with his face chopped up) Years earlier, Campas had toyed with Vargas in sparring.
    • Beat up the undefeated Tony Ayala Jr. and forced him to quit, spoiling the onetime buzz-maker's comeback run after his release from prison.
    • Soaked up seven rounds' worth of punishment from Oscar de la Hoya at the peak of his physical strength and with his confidence sky-high coming off the Vargas stoppage.
    • FOTY with unbeaten John Duddy.
    • Another, lower-profile FOTY candidate with Nito Bravo, then still a fairly well known quantity having recently participated in the popular reality show "The Contender".
    • Fought a tough, close battle with Macklin.
    • Scored a KO1 blitz over Terra Garcia, who just a few bouts earlier had been a world titlist!
    • Nearly beat young 10-0 (10) Dorado Reyes, losing a MD in Reyes' hometown of Chihuahua.
    • Drew with Hector Camacho, Sr. (home cooking, the Puerto Rican mostly clinched) and then lost a split decision months later to Camacho's equally negative son.
    • Went on a nine month tear - leading up to just a day before his 40th birthday - racking up solid W's including rematches with Matt Vanda and Esteban Camou and knockouts of Porky Medina and Chuny Rodriguez.
    • Was stopped nine times but never actually knocked out proper (waved off while still on his feet via referee's discretion versus Trinidad, Asikainen, and Cota; stopped on injuries or cuts and/or swelling by Lopez, Vargas, Carr, Santos, De la Hoya and Roman)
    • Scalped a total of five unbeaten opponents, with records totaling 107-0 when he fought them (Roger Turner 22-0, Luciano Torres 13-0, Raul Marquez 28-0, Tony Ayala Jr. 27-0, Esteban Camou 17-0)
    • Fought and lost to another five unbeaten opponents (13-0 Jorge Cota, 10-0 Marcos Reyes, 17-0 John Duddy, 14-0 Fernando Vargas, and 23-0 Felix Trinidad), acquitting himself well on all occasions.
    • Retained his classical Mexican body-punching technique for nearly three decades and was still pounding organs and hurting significantly younger opponents as the wrinkles and flab piled on and gave him the resemblance of a hobo used roughly by the world.
    • Has scored 14 more knockouts (79) than Manny Pacquiao has professional bouts (65) - 15 more than Bernard Hopkins (64) and twelve more than Wladimir Klitschko (67).

Pulling up to our next stop - and terminus.

Yori Boy laces up for the 126th and final time on Saturday night, versus Anthony Bonsante. Win, lose or draw - this is said to be it. Y no mas.

So the final record will stand at either 106-17-3 or 105-18-3 (or, in case of a draw or NC, 105-17-4 or 105-17-3-1...) - forevermore.

I'm both at once stoked he won't be taking any more lumps on the noggin and bummed he faces an uncertain future with no means to provide for himself. (and can only hope the boxing community takes care of its own here and looks after the last Centurion...maybe some of his more well-off rivals like ODLH and Tito, for instance, who could easily do so without hurting for it)

Just another eighteen months and two weeks and he would hit thirty years - but in boxing you don't get so much as the schlock corporate gift of a gold wrist-watch.

So this is for the best. He doesn't have to prove anything to anyone or hit any further milestones at 44yo and comfortably past 100 wins.

This will be watchable as the main event of a $15 internet PPV on GFL.

So it will, you'd hope, be moderately better than most of the paydays Campas has been used to - but still a drop in the bucket.

I think anyone that's enjoyed a Yori Boy fight in their lifetime ought to buy this, even if the card itself ordinarily would never seem worth even that low price tag (and it really is a SHIT card...) - as this is our last chance to directly give back to a guy that's more deserving and overdue for compensation than most in the sport...and has entertained many of us along the way for the better part of three decades.

So it´s finally coming to an end. I´d say the PPV is worth it.
I read somewhere that according to Campas´ management; there are six fights that are unaccounted for.
