Dubious decisions in both the Savon and Camarelle fights. Discuss.

Its universally known that his gold was bought by the hosts. What's there to discuss?

Is he the most undeserving? I would say no. That tittle belongs to the gold medal winner from the RJJ's amateur days.

He did not really deserve that gold but he looks seriously legit now.

    This.

I would even add that there are some that quesion the Dychko bout and say that he went 0-3. That being said, he clearly looks like the best prospect, or maybe number two behind Joseph Parker.

I think we are going to see him in some great fights against other young guys like Parker, the Furies, Kuzman, Wilder, Pulev, Helenius, Martin, Wallin, Granat, Usyk and Kudryashov.

Not even close... he at least went 2-2 in most viewers eyes and kept the final pretty close (the 1st round not so much though, that was blatant).

The guy that "beat" RJJ is many times worse. He already received a blatant gift and one close one when he faced Roy in the finals in wich he got humiliated, but got the nod anyway. Aferwards it turned out the judges had actually been bought.

He beat Cammarelle. He lost to Savon, but still beat a lot of very good fighters to get the gold. I suppose he deserves it.

How can you ever deserve the gold when you clearly lose the 1st round?! :conf

I agree it was a fix. Even Fraudley was worth his gold.

I think the Camarelle fight was close, could have gone either way but he did lose to Savon.

But he isn't the most undeserving Olympic champion not even close. Si Hun Park winning the gold medal over Roy Jones Jr was far worse.

The fact is there is corruption and incompetence within amateur boxing this is nothing new.

He got the rub of the green but was certainly hanging with those guys no worries.

Savon he lost, I thought he was a but lucky against Dychko at the time actually but I don't recall that fight vividly, it was close. To be honest I thought he lost to Cammarelle.

But as had been said far less deserving gold medalists.

I will add that having such a pro British crowd would have likely effected the judges scoring. Even shots that didn't land that cleanly or even missed by a fraction would have been loudly cheered and that can effect a judges scoring. Which can explain some of the decisions going his way. Though I still think he lost clearly to Savon.

He clearly lost to Savon and Cammarelle. Against Dychko was close and could go to Dychko as well. But Savon and Cammarelle was farce.

Park Si-Hun is probably the most undeserving winner of recent times but not just because of the infamous robbery in the finals against Roy Jones. Si-Hun was actually the beneficiary of numerous undeserved victories in those Olympics. It has been said he didn't deserve to get his hand raised in any of bouts during those games. That said, this had a lot to do with the Koreans still feeling aggrieved about the previous Olympics in Los Angeles in 1984 where the home nation's representatives were being awarded gift decisions left, right and center and were the recipients of a lot of home cooking.

The list of fighters who've been robbed or who won decisions they didn't deserve in major championships like the Olympics, world amateur boxing championships, Europeans etc. is extensive. Joshua isn't the only one. Andre Ward is another that springs to mind. He was extremely lucky that the referee didn't issue numerous points deductions against him for the excessive amount of holding he did against the Uzbek in his semi-final match. He won by a 2pt margin but they were both tied at 15-15 a piece going into the last round IIRC and he held onto his opponent like a gay octopus to prevent him from scoring for most of that round too. He should've had at least 4pts deducted from his tally for the excessive holding he did in that bout.

Anthony Juju didn't deserve to win after losing 3 times but on all ocassions being given gift decisions.
