yeah I could see that, but never by a large margin,,, what a interesting battle of jabs, speed, timing and angles this would be :bbb
"Im a better version of myself now after the lay off,im bigger, stronger and im timing my punching better now"..M.Ali in 71 after the Quarry fight. :smooch "Ali of the 60's would have been more easily hit by Frazier b/c his defense was not as good" G. Foreman :smooch
Ali weighed 215 for the Frazier fight, and 212 for the Williams fight. He was not bigger or stronger, just chubbier and slower.
" I'm fitter, and stronger than I've ever been my whole life " Ali going into the Holmes fight, when everyone in his camp including himself knew he had the onset of Parkinsons. Next silly quote from you please.:nut
The doctor who examined him said it was "at least 40" , with no birth records. Liston fought Ali (Clay) with one arm too.
Anyhoo, back to the original question. Both fighters in their prime had a similar style, well Holmes tended to stay in the middle of the ring and he can fight on the back foot. Would unfortunately be a boring fight... It would be very close split decision, if they had 3 fights, I'd give Ali 1, Holmes 1, and a draw.
Prime Ali outboxes Holmes clearly. Pure speed. Seventies Ali ? The best version of that decade (1972-74) just about nicks it if Muhammad's in optimum condition.
Holmes UD. Ali had issues with good jabbers at many stages of his career. In addition Holmes was more versatile and the better in-fighter by a good margin,
This is what makes me think that guys like Holmes and Wlad would be a handful for even prime Ali. Big enough to have a size advantage and technical enough to have the means to counter his speed, coupled with a great jab.
