In 2012 Lewis was the 5th richest sportsperson in The Sunday Times rich list with a net worth of £95 mil, or $145 mil. Since then they have changed their criteria and you have to be worth a minimum £100 million. The question is does anyone think he would have had a net worth of that amount if he had been stupid enough to let the parasitical King get his claws into him? Or more importantly are there any Heavyweights alive today that had something to do with King in one way or another that are worth anything like 145 million dollars. Not money generated or earned. " Net worth." It appears when he made the following observation about the leech, he was smarter than his detractors might think. Lennox Lewis was asked why he did not sign a contract with Don King after he won the Olympic Gold medal, his response "How can you trust a man who can talk for 5 minutes and you cant understand a sentence of it?".
He would have definitely been fleeced by King and likely wouldn't be as wealthy as he is now, but he wouldn't be broke. Holmes was a King fighter and is still a wealthy man. Holmes says he was ripped off by King as well, would often make a lot less than he was supposed to, but he kept what he did earn and invested it wisely instead of living a lavish lifestyle and Lewis seems to be from the same mould in terms of being sensible with his finances. Lewis may have gotten more opportunities had he been a King fighter. He would have still been ducked by Bowe but when he lost to McCall, a King fighter, he would have likely gotten a quick rematch, instead of being frozen out. I still think he would have prevented a Tyson fight happening if he could, until Tyson lost to Holyfield. Then he'd try and line up Tyson to take Lewis' WBC belt in the hopes the winner would face Holyfield.
He fought for Don King plenty of times. If I remember correctly King paid him very well indeed, over the value of some of those fights.
The above two are spot on. :good I'd love to know if Lennox still has that kind of money or what his investments are. Definitely hope he can stay minted until he dies, though. Be nice to see a HW legend enjoy their money and health, and not having to get in the ring again. Have to say, he is one of the cleverest boxers in those terms though. Being "flash" didn't earn him money, he saw that from a young age. He's been offered man money since he retired and still turned it down. And I believe he could still come out for £10Mill+ easy if he wanted to.
Cheers guys. But doesn't it make your skin crawl that the filth King ruined what could have been possibly the greatest era of compertative fighters?
King was beyond a doubt one of the worst thing for boxing you can imagine. But he had *****, I sure as hell wouldn't have purposely ripped of Tyson or Holmes, god only knows where that could have ended.
I clearly recall feeling really happy when Lewis didn't sign with King :deal it was good for boxing :bbb
It was one of the best things he did both for boxing and himself. Had he signed King would have had his hooks in the heavyweight division for a decade or more.
Do you mean he fought King fighters plenty of times? There is a difference. First and foremost Lewis would have flatly refused any of those garbage " option " clauses.
King is a convenient scapegoat for all the dumbass fighters who can't control their money. Boo fcuking hoo....
