Very unlucky, showed excellent footwork jabbing Ramirez from the outside, was cornered against the ropes a few times but Ramirez struggled to land too many shots clean, I thought Ovill took it by a few rounds, started and finished well, he gets a moral victory and was still all smiles at the end. As Steve Lillis says if the IBF slot him in at number one, the rematch could go to purse bids and they could maybe get Ramirez over to England
I hope he gets the credit he deserves, clearly UK No1 Cruiser with that result made even better by the short notice, I take my hat off sir well done
Certainly a performance he can be proud of and anywhere other than Argentina would have prob been enough to see him crowned world champion.
Great effort took the fight on short notice away from home and got robbed. The Upsetter lets hope he gets another chance, real warrior Ovill McKenzie.
Great performance from Ovil, but could you imagine how easily Drozd, Lebedev, Usyk, Chakhiev would beat Ramirez.
Agreed, I can't help thinking that for Ovill to be a force in the future he needs to move back down to LHW. Even if he wins the rematch he'll not be able to beat any of the above.
When Ovill failed to finish the job when he had Ramirez hurt, i thought his chance had gone, but he proved a lot of people wrong ( including me ) by fighting hard till the end. Great performance, and i hope he gets the rematch this side of the water, and does the business next time.
Well said Billy. To finish like that on eleven days notice was superb. No doubt in my mind Ovil becomes IBF champion if a rematch can be secured.
"fair" in the sense that it was definately close and he was in Argentina, but I think on balance he was the better fighter The last round was quality, Ramirez started showboating and celebrating prematurely so Ovil put a beating on him before the bell when you consider that Ovill was on the back foot for the entire fight on enemy territory, it was "fair", for example, the home broadcasters had Ramirez by four rounds, giving Ovill only the first and last 2 rounds
The man deserves a rematch, with full notice, great effort and this kind of boxer is what makes me love boxing.
God bless Ovil - he deserved to get the nod I hope FW can get the Argie over here for a rematch somehow
