Any one on here remember Mustafa Hamsho?

Absolutely. Clearly the second-best middleweight in the world in the early to mid-eighties. Besides the Hagler fights, he had a few good wins too......Parker, Minter, Scypion and Czyz, and of course Benitez, for whatever that one was worth.

Terribly awkward, but in a good way, and strong as a bull. Dirty son of a *****.

I know the decision in the Minter fight isn't real popular around here, but I had Hamsho just edging it. Nice brawl, though. Hamsho was so awkward and so strong that he made it almost impossible for anyone to box him from a comfortable distance. You had to brawl with him.

 

Oh yeah, he was very big when I first started following boxing in the late 70s/early 80s. Like others have said, he was probably the second-best MW of the early Hagler era. A real tough guy, not exceptional in any facet of the sport, but solid all the way around.

 

I too had him edging Minter, but I think Curtis Parker was royally robbed in their first fight. I will admit however, that Hamsho came in with a better game plan the second time around and won a good decision over Parker. He was one tough fighter.

 

Haven't seen the first Parker fight. Think I will!

 

Salsa, I would love to hear your opinion on the fight. It's been a long time since I've seen it (actually I've never seen it again since I watched it live) and it may be high time i watch it again myself.

Just saw it. Thanks, man. I've got to sit down and watch the fight proper just to satisfy my curiosity now.

 

I was never a fan of Hamsho's but I thought that he outpointed Minter pretty clearly. Only gave Minter 3 or 4 rounds that fight. I was impressed that Hamsho kept his head when Minter used a bunch of dirty tactics (blatantly hitting after the bell in 4 rounds, holding his head and hitting a few times, and the one time when he took a punch while he had Hamsho in a headlock).

 

Sort of reminds me of Roldan with less punching power, with a little Shawn Porter mixed in.

 

Yeah, I didn't think it was a bad decision. I suppose it could have been a draw.
Sibson really smashed Minter though.
