Yes, it was very one-sided. Tyson did knock Douglas down pretty hard though. His only real moment of success in 10 rounds of fighting.
Its quite common for people to voice their opinions on a fight they haven't seen, or just seen highlights of the final 10 seconds.
I mean, don't get me wrong, Buster fought his guts out and did get the best of it throughout, bu it was absolutely never one-sided, not even in the stoppage round.
Most of all he didn't back down when Tyson landed his first combos in the opening rounds. Most Tyson opponents wet their pants and went off running for the hills on the first punch landed. Not so Douglas. He stood his ground and hit back. I remember the US commentators of the fight going crazy "Douglas is not backing down! He's trading toe-to-toe with Tyson, he is going all in!" -- they were in disbelief that's how horrendous much of Tyson's previous opposition was :rofl
Many people don't talk about this or maybe even realize it, but Mike won that fight. Buster was down for 14 seconds. The ref was counting extremely slow which allowed buster the time to get up when he should have been counted out. Don't think it would have changed much though, with mike hitting prison shortly after.
Many people don't talk about this or maybe even realize it, But Douglas won that fight, Tyson was also given the advantage of a long count and couldn't make it, Douglas got up from his and destroyed the Brownsville bully.
Is this defeat going to be held against Tyson for the rest of his life? Why did douglas run away from a rematch and refuse to fight Tyson again rematch clause or not if he was so confident he could do it again? Tyson atleast showed his heart, toughness by surviving 10 brutal rounds and almost pulling off the impossible in round 8 with that uppercut. Why aren't the McCall and rahman fights held against Lewis where he got starched like a girl with just one big shot to the face? Winning the rematch doesn't take away the fact he lost two fights embarrassingly which he shouldn't have. It's not like he won a rematch with Joe frazier or George Foreman.
Great performance from Douglas, but I don't think Tyson even trained for that fight. Douglas would always give Tyson problems though, he was the epitome of an underachiever. It showed in his next fight against Holyfield.
