How many would rather have the smaller heavyweights again?

I was wondering how many boxing fans would prefer to have the smaller heavyweights back? 185-200 pounds and bring back the 15 round fights. Or are you happy with the super heavies and 12 rounders of today?

We still have them-- they're just called cruiserweights now. Oh, and some of them cut weight and fight at light-heavy and super-middle instead.

 

True, but they don't get anywhere near the publicity or fame as they did in the old days. Why is that? I personally think they should've kept them as heavyweights and put all the 220+ pounders at super heavyweights. I think this would help keep both classes in the spotlight.

If the gloves were smaller and we went back to 15 rounds the biggest guys would cut weight too.

Bigger gloves and shorter rounds favours the heavier guy every time.

Myself I would handicap a fighter with more than 15lb weight advantage by giving his opponent 2oz smaller gloves.

There is far too much artificial weight on most heavyweights. It suits the taller longest guys way too much. Size become a everything.

 

cruiser has been one of the most consistently entertaining divisions for years.

keep it like this so we can have the occasional talk about that division without the boring dip5h1ts who spend their entire lives having the same 5 discussions about heavyweights getting involved.

Depends on how much smaller. No I don't want to go back to having Floyd Patterson and rocky marciano sized heavyweights. But for me I think the ideal size is anywhere from 6'0" to 6'5" and weighing anywhere from 205 to 230. Guys like Muhammad Ali, George foreman, Larry Holmes, mike Tyson, Evander Holyfield, R. Bowe, and Lennox Lewis are within the size range I like.. These dudes who are anywhere from 6'6" to 7'0" and weighing over 240 lbs are not necessarily more fun to watch.

 

So you draw the line between Bowe/Lewis and Vitali/Wlad?

 

I am for 15 rounds, but only on title unification fights.

Leave the gloves alone. Same weight.

 

I would say that anybody who doesn’t feel a sense of nostalgia for the Sam Langford’s and Jack Dempsey’s of the past doesn’t have a heart, and anybody who wants them back doesn’t have a brain.

Even if the modern versions wouldn't get to keep the mystique of an unlimited class that outgrew them, there's always a place for talents like that in the smaller classes. I'd love to see what they could do at LHW or Cruiser.

 

I want them larger... bigger than Valuev... science may help us.

Probably yeah.. Bowe and Lewis being the maximum.
