I think everyone is too busy trying to figure out how Gus getting pulverized via Ist round KO loss in his most recent fight got this title opportunity. His embarrassments seem to get swept under the rug so fast. He's like the Swedish Chael Sonnen
I got a lot of sympathy for Gus. People seem to forget how unfairly he was robbed out of an immediate rematch with Jones. DC jumped the queue. Gus is finally getting what he deserves (though - again unfairly on Gus - stylistically DC is gonna be a harder fight)
Hopefully Gus breaks him down. DC, since he has become "the champ", has become super annoying. Jones took down DC at will. Jones didn't do jack to Gus. Gus was doing the TD's in their fight. And Gus has way too many tools standing to beat DC. DC has power, but his striking is abysmal, he has no head movement and he basically follows - and never uses angles - his opponent. Depends which Gus shows up though after the Rumble KO. And seeing as he hasn't been training with top-level wrestlers... Gus by TKO.
not sure if gus is used to fighting a small grinder like Dc,we know Dc is used to tall strikers....Dc by stoppage 3rd round.
Watch 'Gus" underperform in another big fight. Even the jones fight, it was right there for him but he coasted in that final round and even seemed to put on the brakes at times when he could have pushed an advantage during the first four rounds. He will come up short again tonight perhaps even tragically short like his last effort. Perhaps they should just paint his opponents white and he might fight better. Minowa and that French kickboxer aside.
He could have won tonight but just did not do enough once again. Even had Cormier hurt bad at the end of the third.
Just watched the recording, right decision for DC. Gus had him with that knee but he didn't use it enough. Also the uppercuts in the clinch, why he allowed DC to do that only he knows. Nose was a right mess.
DC got a gift. 2,3,4 were clearly Gus rounds. What's this guy got to do to win a close fight? Beat his opponent from pillar to post start to finish?
The sh#tdoggers on their RBR had it 49-46 for Cormier. Stupid Gustaffson should have known he was not getting any favors from the judges.
