Deontay Wilder and his trainer announced that they won't fight Alexander Povetkin, the mandatory challenger for the WBC Belt, next. Wilder wants to get back in the ring asap and is looking for a challenger to fight him in January 2016. They expect the negotiations with team Povetkin could take months before reaching an agreement and they won't wait that long. His next defense will be most likely Polish bum Andrzej Wawrzyk, who will enter the top #15 WBC ranking after some impressive wins over #803 ranked Patryk Kowoll and #125 ranked Mike 'Glass Jawed Bum' Sheppard in his last 2 fights.
I was hoping that Wilder would improve after he beat Stiverne but he looks like he might even regress(as if thats even possible). I had some hope for him... :-( Maybe, just maybe big Al realizes that WIlder needs a new team if they want to continue milking that belt.
Wilder should be stripped ASAP. This fraud is a disgrace to boxing. Guaranteed it's Wawrzyk assuming the WBC let's him bypass his mandatory and fight again. Hopefully the WBC stick to their guns and force him to fight Povetkin next.
I've got no problem with it. Milking all the paydays possible before the Povetkin cash-out is good business for him.
All he's saying is that the Polvetkin fight might go to purse bid and then the fight won't happen until next year and that he will take another fight in between now and then. They said they'd rather fight then wait until then and so would like for it to be Thompson, Chisora or Arreola. Nothing wrong with that.
Champs are obligated to fight the best, not caring about 3 straight defenses against weak opposition is exactly the problem! If more fans were up in arms over this frauds like Wilder wouldn't be able to get away with it!
I'd be okay with it as long as It's against Takam, TT or Jennings. Wilder and his team clearly don't like his chances against Povetkin.
Tarver ? ....a shot light heavyweight ? I have no problem him keeping busy with a top 15 opponent. We all know he's milking it...thats good business sense that all fighters and their managers do...can't get away from it. But as soon as Povetkin is ready he should be forced to fight him or get stripped.
It's only a matter of delaying the inevitable at this point. I'd be more ticked if Povetkin himself wasn't scheduling a stay-busy fight in the interim.
