Lennox Lewis Admits Ducking.....

Discussion in 'World Boxing Forum' started by WelcomePaladin2, Oct 4, 2015.

  1. To cut a long story short. I Bumped into Lennox Lewis just last week at a convention in London. There was a few ex boxers there but Lennox is a hero of mine & it was an honour just to shake his hand, nevermind chatting to him for several minutes.

One interesting thing was on the subject of Rid**** Bowe. We were joking on how Bowe ducked Lewis. Lennox then said: " Ill tell u one thing. I won't give his name, but there was one fighter who I ducked in my career which I regret now, as looking back I would have probably made easy work of him. BUT.. it wasn't "Prime" Tyson or Vitali rematch"

This took me surprise. I chose not to harass the champ further but anyone have any idea who he could be on about?

    It was Brock Lesnar.

WWE offered him 8m in 2002 and Lewis turned it down over a glove debate.

Chris Byrd is too obvious an answer. Everyone knows Lewis was paid to relinquish his IBF belt. And, this was at a point where there was still talk of a Lewis/Tyson rematch (that or talk of retirement).

Byrd was not a duck, in my opinion.

Hard to imagine who else could be?

Sanders? I don't think Lennox would say that about Corrie, they were friends and fight was never in the works.

Moorer? When it was? In 94 Moorer was WBA #1 challenger, Lewis lost his title later, and Moorer lost as well in 94.

    Ruiz? Hmm.

    Maybe old Foreman?

    Ibeabuchi?

Funny - I wondered that myself; him or George Foreman. Then I wondered if it might be old but slightly rejuvenated Tim Witherspoon?

I just had a flick through Lennox's biography, 'Mama's Boy'. There are only two references made to Ike. The first talking about him going off the rails - then a subsequent mention in reference to Byrd's loss to him.

Moorer didn't want a bar of Lewis, at any time, to the best of my knowledge.

Which makes me wonder whether what Lewis was referring to actually was the pay-off from King to relinquish the IBF title...
