It was really disappointing to hear Lucas Matthysse at the post fight interview to have said he could have got up but preferred to protect his eye because he couldnt see. How may fighters in the past have bloody cuts in their eye or swollen but never gave it up until it was stopped by a ref? Do you think Lucas should at least have tried to continue or was he right to quit on his knee?
He was taking a beating and was pretty tired and couldn't win on points anymore. Postal was really picking up steam and laying it on him. I hate to say quiting is the right thing, but it may have been. I have a much bigger problem with him blabbing on and on with excuses after the fight and refusing to give the opponent any credit. Really bummed me out. I was a pretty big fan before this transpired. Dissapointing.
I vote no because he didn't do the right thing after the fight, not necessarily for quiting when he did, which I am on the fence about.

I voted yes, the thought of losing my sight scares the s*** out of me, so if it actually started happening to me I'd quit the fight in a heartbeat, and everyone else on here would too.
As far as I can see, he's not claiming his eye shut, he's saying he thought he had actually lost his sight, as in permanent damage. If true, yes of course he did the right thing and anybody who would have carried on is not brave but rather insane.
Nobody knows what he was going through, after that shot landed so im not going to critisize him because he was the one taking those punches not me...
Correct response. Yet, I hear the term "Kneeguel Cotto" slung around heRE when people want to diss people that take the knee when they are hurt. Hell if Meldrick Taylor took the knee against Chavez Sr. then he may have walked away the victor. If Khan learned how to take the knee instead of laying flat on his back he could have survived the Garcia beating. Hopkins took a knee to Kovalev in round 1 and continued the fight and finished. Marcos Maidana rolls all over the ring and comes back stronger.

Exactly, whats good for one boxer should be the same for another. Especially after the beating Cotto got from Margacheato. And Cotto look a lot worse than Lucas. But you can give a pass to one fighter because you a fan of his and clown another fighter because you don't like him.
Voted 'Yes', though I would have done the same thing. But I'm not fighting for WBC Championship or trying to claim that I'm the champion. It's not fighter's concern to worry about his health after KD, but doctor's and referee's.
People saying he should have waited for the doc to stop it...how? There was no visible damage, it was internal, which is more worrying for a fighter. Gerald mcclennan springs to mind, said his vision had started to go blurry but carried on fighting, look where that got him. Lucas 100% did the right thing IMO.
This. Taking punishment is never cool, and just because your chin can handle it does not mean you should rely on it. Matthyse is a warrior and gave us so many great fights, sadly i feel he is on a big decline and it might be over for him in terms of prime. You cant just judge him on this alone, like people just judge duran for "no mas"
