Just because wlad beat Byrd or vitali beat Sanders doesn't mean **** for the other Brother. Same goes for other guys one fought and the other didn't. It seems convenient for fans of klitchko to give them each equal credit for their wins. Makes no sense.

    Edit:move to general

I don't think either of them really take much credit.. Wlad still gets a ton of shlt for the sanders loss as does Vitali for losing to Byrd. I think the real problem that I've always had is with this tag team system of them eliminating viable contenders whom the other either lost to or didn't find palatable while not having to face each other, then brushing off the need to avenge their own defeats... But its not like Wlad gets "credit" for Vitali beating sanders or vice versa...

No but the lack of a rematch seems to be taken more lightly on their resumes as it would if it was another fighter who beaf Sanders and not vitali.

However as with your other point if it were another fighter to beat Sanders he would end up fighting wlad. Since vitali did...no fight.

true.. I know there have been some explanations for them not fighting those guys again... Vitali never rematching Lewis is understandable and not his fault, but I'm not sure about why he never fought Byrd again.. And I can't see any viable excuses for why Wlad never rematched Purity or Sanders.

I think a belt stipulation of some kind may have interfered with a rematch?I forget..but found a Wlad quote on sanders ...

“[Sanders] was what people in boxing call a ‘bum.’ I was tired, I’d been busy. I went into the ring thinking I’ll knock this guy out in one round and go home. This is the worst way to think. It’s a psychological disaster. You can’t think about your vacation when you’re about to step in the ring. In my entire career, nobody ever beat me like this.” W.klitchko

Sanders also dropped the wbo he won so a rematch was not likely,Sanders chose Vitali as his next opponent,so I would say this thread to mock wlad is a big fail with a capital F. :-(

Ironically you could say Wlad's whole career is creditable to Vitali.

Whilst Vitali was the heir apparent Wlad was the reckless Olympic champ who'd been exposed.

At that point in 2004 who would have thought Vitali would retire his throne and Wlad would go unbeaten for 11 years and unify the division?

Wlad deserves all the credit he got but I can't help but feel it was only possible because big brother retired.

Looking at the landscape who would have beaten Vitali? The only man I give any chance is Haye because he's the only athletic type fighter with the unpredictable factor about him. Anyone else needs to land a hail Mary shot. Vitali would have avenged his loss to Byrd and dominated for a decade, I've no reasonable doubt. Wlad would have been a footnote in HW history.

So in a way I totally disagree. Their main attributes are creditable to the other. Wlad ruled in Vitali's absence. Vitali became this unbeatable monster in a hugely diluted talent pool.

I think Vitali had the potential to rule from 2004 onward. My only hesitation is that he's injury prone and can't help but think that it might have come back to haunt him at some point.

Wlad could have pursued Sanders even after Vits beat him. Sanders always wondered why he didnt. This is the point the TS is making. When a champion loses and continues on without at least looking to avenge a loss like that its suspect. When fans excuse it, it just becomes more magnified.

Yes they are two different people, and should be assessed as such.

If Vitali already beats Sanders ,why would Wlad persue him? That's dumb, nothing to gain if Sanders is sighned with the other promotion his brother Vitali is champion of. its not wlads job to persue anyone,Sanders sighened out of Wlads range not the other way around.

Vits beat him, Wlad lost. In your mind you think its ok to lose and not rematch if your brother beats him? Boxing isnt a tag team sport unless your name is Klitschko. Im sure you excuse Vits for not even looking to rematch Byrd after losing to him because Wlad beat him, right? Losing to one fighter doesnt mean you shouldnt have to avenge your defeats, and a loss on a fighters record doesnt mean he is no longer a viable fighter. Your logic is diluted.

People assume almost without thinking about it, that the Klitschko brothers sit fairly close together, on an all-time heavyweight list.

    This notion should be challenged.

If you look at their resumes separately, and overlook the family connection, then a lot of clear blue water opens up between them.

That notion is simply ridiculous. Vits resume isnt even close to Wlads and neither is his longevity. Vits faced ONE better fighter in Lewis and lost. He also has the loss to Byrd in spite of being ahead on the cards. Wlad easily beat Byrd twice. Wlad got decimated by Sander, Vits stopped him. Neither rematched those losses. I consider the era weak as a whole, but Wlad stayed on top and beat everyone. That separates them by a country mile. Wlad probably ranks at ot near 10th all time for me now. Vits is borderline top 25. And on that Im using the very weak h2h argument to even justify that kind of ranking. Jmo.

There is that possibility but at that level I think he'd have forced am immediate rematch and won.
