Karl was unfortunately hampered throughout his career by poor punch resistance...his bad chin. It's surmised that the German may well have beaten Oscar Bonavena on points had his chin been a little hardier. It was the poins margin afforded by those 4 kds that basically won that fight for Oscar. Similar to Primo Carnera vs Max Baer, where he outboxed Maxie for long stretches before his poor chin (and bum ankle) got in the way.
The European Stars & Stripes sounds American?:huh You don't think there could have been some bias a foreigner fighting a German in Germany with a German referee? In the 60's Germany was notorious for dodgy decisions and to some extent it still goes on today. Henry Cooper deserved the decision against Heinz Neuhaus but got a draw and was robbed against Eric Shoppner he ko'd him but Cooper was dsq'd.
Ive seen it: http://i1184.photobucket.com/albums/z335/klompton/vlcsnap-2013-06-18-09h27m29s50_zps912dc3eb.png http://i1184.photobucket.com/albums/z335/klompton/vlcsnap-2013-06-18-09h27m20s209_zps40f62fab.png http://i1184.photobucket.com/albums/z335/klompton/vlcsnap-2013-06-18-09h28m15s253_zpsc0ec932f.png If anyone else here can say the same then please share your first hand opinion. Until then I'll trust what my eyes tell me. Folley was lazy, unmotivated, and dispassionate. Mildenberger did better work and the draw hurt him more than it did Folley. And for the record European Stars and Stripes was/is American publication based out of Germany catering primarily to the permanent occupation forces in Germany (at that time).
Then why was he buckled twice with body shots after the 8th round when he was heaved over and had to cover up?
yes agreed which is usually the agenda here, supe up guys at all cost...glad you picked up on it...because Mcdolt sure didn't...
The Stars and Stripes is/was the newspaper printed for U.S. troops overseas. It's written by U.S. servicemen. Did you see the movie Full Metal Jacket? Private Joker (Matthew Modine) wrote for Stars and Stripes.
not until a ten rounder i believe? ..with one eye...ali blasted a glass jaw 190 pounder yea that's a good accomplishment it took him about 8/10 rounds to do it,ignoring the corrupt scoring Mildenberger actually won half the rounds in the process !
