ggg's amatuer record is meaningless. has nothing to do with pro boxing

    They are very different sports. For very clear reasons. The whole landscape is different. Records in the amateurs don't mean to much. They do give a good background to the guys who go through it, but AM success doesnt always equate to PRO success.

    Jeff Lacy had a great amateur record too. Just because g has one doesnt mean he doesnt have serious flaws in his game.

    Wladimir Klitschko, Alexander Povetkin, Deontay Wilder, Kubrat Pulev, Oleksandr Usyk, Rakhim Chakhiev, Andre Ward, Artur Beterbiev, James Degale, Floyd Mayweather, Gennady Golovkin, Vasyl Lomachenko, Guillermo Rigondeaux. Do you wanna guess what all these guys have in common? And Lacy's amateur career is not nearly as good as Golovkin's.

    its easy to sit here and name all of the AMs who succeeded. You and I know a list of failures would be lot longer.

    That was just on top off my head. And I don't think you can make a longer list for oympic medalists\great amateur careers with failure pro careers.

    They are not very different sports. Any boxer who had hundreds of amateur fights on the international level with a winning ratio of over 95% is a great boxer. Specifically GGG, Rigo, Loma, Ward and Usyk are among the most skillful boxers out there. But specifically GGG and Usyk is further special as they both possess immense power.

    Lemieux sure is a great puncher, one of the hardest punchers in the sport. But even he has no chance against Golovkin. That's how great Golovkin is.

    Name me all the Olympic medallists who failed as pros. Audley is the only one I can think of and even he was European champ at one point, failure is only relative to expectation.

    most all boxers have amateur careers unless from a poor county where pro boxing is allowed at 15 years of age

    btw a very good amatuer career is not all about olympic medals

    Very true. Te only applicable reference to his amateur background is that he won a medal in the Olympics.
    Otherwise, it means nothing.

    His amateur record shows the highest level of skills. That combined with his power, great chin and discipline makes him an elite professional boxer.
