30 years takes us back to 1985.

Leonard beat Hearns back in '81.
He drew with him in 1989 rematch.

He beat Hagler in '87 and Duran in '89.
The Hagler win was impressive but I thought Hagler won by a point or two honestly.

It's a shame you pointed that out to all the Leonard fanboys really isn't it?:rofl:rofl:rofl:rofl

And on that basis I'd say Won 3 Lost 2 and Drew 1 isn't anything to get excited about.

Even if 2 of the 3 wins were against faded legends.

Yeah, I forgot to add Wilfred Benitez. He was excellent. And for the cherry on the top Sugar Ray knocked out Floyd Mayweather!

What a resume. Big names, big fights! Miss ya Sugar.

If you want to use 30 years, you have to drop Benitez, and Hearns. And you also lose his only decent win against Duran.

    However...

    Went 1-1 with prime Roberto.

Waited the dude out till old age, dictated all terms, and got a very controversial decision.

went 1-1 by his own reckoning.

    Good win.

A very great fighter, no doubt, but gets overrated at times.

    Especially by RedRooster. :D

Hagler was 32 and had not lost a fight in 10+ years. I do not think 32 is old age, especially for an active fighter. Hagler was also the natural middle weight.

I've scored it twice, Hagler gave away the first three or four rounds. That's on him.

Hagler's team settled for the larger purse, and let Leonard pick the rounds fought and the ring size. Leonard's superior Ring Generalship started before the battle was fought.

PS: I moved the bar to the last 35 years.

Hagler was 32 years and eleven months, was at the end of a fourteen year career with nearly seventy fights under his belt. He hadn't fought in a year and was talking retirement, when he got the offer.

Leonard had fewer than half that many fights in a style much less prone to wear and tear, and had remarked before the fight that Hagler had slowed down considerably.

So he waited him out. Further, he insisted on 12 (not the customary 15) rounds. (Marvin did better in the later rounds.)

He insisted on a 20 ft ring and 10 oz gloves.

And still, the decision was controversial.

It was a great win for Leonard, but in my book, it has an asterisk beside it.

IMO, Floyd has a better resume.

Ironic that you point out that Hagler was post prime and he was. Yet you come back and say Floyd has a better resume. Ignoring the fact that Floyd made his name beating Corrales and Castillo, but every other notable fighter he ever fought besides Hatton was past their best.

Leonards resume is ridiculously better than Floyd's.
