If GGG moved up and made the top fighters look like cans, more power to him. Then we might mention him as one of the greats along with Jones Jr, Hopkins, and Toney.
After Golovkin wins, those with a vested interest in Golovkin's success will try and overstate the victory, making it seem as though the predictable outcome in this upcoming mismatch is something extraordinary. Then I'd imagine... Plan A - Wait and see what happens with Cotto-Canelo and see if you can land the winner Plan B - Try and target Andy Lee and/or the winner of a would-be Lee-BJS fight (if it actually happens) Plan C - Gun for some other quasi-name in the division (Quillin, Jacobs, etc) Plan D - Something far less compelling and more disappointing than Plans A through C :smoke
Well if the winner of Alvarez-Cotto vacates their title, I'd imagine GGG would be able to fight for the vacant title. Him and his team have made it abundantly clear they want to unify the division, and it's good to see a fighter with that mindset. I hope he ends up fighting Andy Lee next, maybe for Feb/March 2016. After that, it would be wonderful to see him take on the Quillin-Jacobs winner in early summer although I know there's a few hurdles that would have to be overcome in order for that matchup to materialize.
Plausible. I think both fights are competitive decisions. They're not plausible fights though - Haymon guys don't fight on HBO. That's why I think they're looking at viable HBO opponents in Canelo, Cotto, Lee... BJS, N'Dam, Korobov if they regain momentum after their respective losses. Then at 168 on HBO you have Ramirez, maaaaybe Abraham... who else? Everybody else is on PBC. I think they're not too excited at the opposition over at SMW right this second... they'll take their time at MW, the BHop record is reachable.
He fought his WBC mandatory in February, and hasnt made a defense of his WBA title since Geale. You gotta believe he's gonna get a mando out the way to maintain his title statuses. Could be Heliand, Johnson, Wade, or Eubank Jr. That is unless he could convince BJS/Lee winner into another PPV, but I doubt HBO would be looking to put a PPV back together so quickly and would rather build up a summer PPV after a winter HBO WCB event. :think
