Just recently found out that Calzaghe took on the great super middleweight Chris Eubank on 11 days notice! :scaredas:

Truly one of the best fighters of the era! How many fighters do you know could fight a great fighter like Eubank on 11 days notice!?

    None.

    :nod

And Calzaghe forced the fearless Steve Collins to duck him.

Steve Collins was wise... Anybody who was didn't want to step between the ropes with Joe! :happy

Been a long time since I watched his fights again. I remember watching the Hopkins fight and the RJJ fights like it was yesterday though. Especially RJJ, I wanted to be sure one of my favorite fighters legacy's stayed untarnished. Joe was only down in that fight because he wasn't afraid to go after his opponents, he didn't enjoy running!

Yes. But kudos must all so to Eubank for taking on the electrying knock out artist. (This was before Joe got a lot of injuries to the hands). He managed to drop iron chinned Eubank after a few seconds.

His haters should listen to what Eubank says about Joe's punching power.

Eubank also took the fight on 11 days notice as well, he was meant to fight Mark Prince at light heavy, so he had to drop an extra 7lbs on short notice and he always struggled to make 168lbs even with a proper preparation.

Though Calzaghe does deserve credit for stepping up and taking on a proven world class fighter, even a faded one at short notice, it's not the ideal scenario for a first world title shot.

    Obviously a joke thread.:good

Calzaghe had been in training for Steve Collins for months. Collins was clearly as good or better than Eubank at the time, or possibly any time.

Eubank had been scheduled for a 175 pound fight against Mark Prince.
God knows how much weight Eubank had to shed in those last 11 days.
