Actually, at 160, considering the problems Maidana gave Floyd, I would bet the house that Hamsho would rough the shyte out of Floyd and take a decision as well.
I was just messing Magoo, try not to take anything I say to seriously. For example I'm not sure I used to/o correctly in that previous sentence. Having seen more of Mayweather my opinion wouldn't be that valid when comparing the two. Benitez looks every bit as good as Floyd on film, might not boasts a better resume in terms of quantity, but generally speaking I prefer quality and Benetiez's resume does not lack in that department. Sorry for ****ing about in your thread :-(
One of the all time natural greats, he claimed to have not trained for Leonard. Will always be a big what if guy for me.
Not just Leonard. According to his father in a Ring interview, Benitez barely trained for most of his big fights. Harold Weston - 12 days Bruce Curry - 7 days Bruce Curry II - 10 days Carlos Palomino - 15 days Harold Weston II - 1 day Sugar Ray Leonard - 9 days (Wilfredo said 10) Maurice Hope - 11 days
Is that what his dad claims? That's rich. He was a degenerate, exploitative scumbag who was trying to "sell" his son before it was too late so that he could have more money to gamble and purchase slow racehorses. Edit: BTW, he would often put his sons in tough fights and then blame their unimpressive performances on their partying or lack of training. He started doing that to some of the older kids when they were still minors, apparently.
I don't trust his father. Did Emile ever say anything about Benitez not training for Palomino? There were only two and a half months between the two Curry fights (appears that they rushed the rematch to take advantage of the fact that Curry had accepted a fight in Japan for the week before), but I still don't buy the 7 day figure at all. Especially since Wilfred and his father realized that they had taken Curry too lightly the first time around and wanted to make a big statement in the rematch.
I believe that is also true. What a waste. One of the most naturally gifted boxers who EVER lived. Edit. One of the few people I would back to beat Mayweather. Leonard? Too good at everything, plus power. Duran? At 135 an animal. Tommy? Mayweather does not have the concentration for 36 minutes to stop Hearn's landing that 1 bomb. Benitez? So clever he makes Mayweather become the aggressor, and that don't work, against Wilfred, unless you are as big, fit, and strong as Leonard.
If one of them is clever enough to trick/force the other out of their game, it would be Mayweather who gets Benitez to fight his fight. Makes more sense too, given that Benitez was naturally a bit more aggressive.
The father son training combination seems to be a very difficult one to navigate. Was Benitez hurt by being trained by his father? If it is even half true that he trained so little for those fights it was crazy and dangerous. It also sounds a lot like rebellion, telling the old man to get stuffed. I found it especially disturbing watching his father hit and slap him between rounds.
