You can't build knockout power from just lifting weights but you can increase you explosivity with the 3 main powerlifts. Any workout above 5 quick reps per set is pointless.
Agreed! BTW s**** wasn't joking about skipping on a logatsch. What does science tells us that we can do instead of skipping to warm up. Most of the time the first thing we do upon entering the gym is to skip first. There are a lots reasons why I don't like skipping so is there another exercise to replace it?
I didnt read the thread title correctly id read it as 5 best exc thats why i was questioning having two variations of the squat. Also could you please elaborate on why good strong athletes shouldnt be doing loaded depth jumps.
You do need to read more carefully. Back squat and OH squat are two completely different exercises for different purposes. There is no point in loading a depth jump, you're already getting many times body weight force into the ground. If you want to increase the load you simply drop from a higher height. If somebody wants to wear a weight vest when doing depth jumps then they simply don't know what they're doing or what they're doing it for.
Warming up is just about getting your heart rate up a bit with some light exercise. Shadow boxing is a better warm up than skipping as it's more specific to the muscles and movements used in boxing (obviously). Skipping is no better or worse than jogging or cycling in regards to a general warm up. Someone told S**** about proprioception so he used his creativity to take it to next level stupid/pointless. Again, if he understood basics he wouldn't have wasted his time thinking up pointless exercises and ideas. People don't like the basics but they are needed to lay a foundation to build from. Creativity and ideas are what advances the world if they are built on top of what is already known. Egos and the desire to be different cause people like S**** to skip/disregard those things.
Jumping rope is not a bad way to build up your aerobic base, plus it's more fun than running. It also makes you feel like a boxer which is important from a psychological aspect. I'd replace the back squat with the trap bar deadlift. Depth jumps are risky. Loaded depth jumps are outright dangerous. You can mimic jumping by doing shadow swings with a kettlebell.
Personally i'm all for weights as i believe they make you stronger, faster and more explosive but wouldn't it be detrimental to a boxer since most of them cut 15-20 pounds of weight in order to make their weight classes? Doing all those lifts would surely add muscle mass even with the traditional 5x5 or 3x3 rep range for power.
personally I doubt golovkin does many, if any of these exercises, yet he is the most devastating puncher in boxing today...
Your point being? Usain Bolt can't lift much. That doesn't mean all his rivals don't benefit from being as strong and powerful as possible in the weight room. What's to say that Golovkin wouldn't be more powerful if he did these exercises? If you get stronger at these exercises how is it possible for you to not get stronger/more powerful?
Only if you're completely untrained. Doing sets of 20 push ups is more likely to build muscle than doing low reps heavy load like that. Whether you gain weight is almost completely down to nutrition.
