Amir Khan has pulled out of negotiations to fight former gym-mate Manny Pacquiao, according to a newsaper in Abu Dhabi.

The Bolton fighter was in talks with the 36-year-old Filipino superstar, who is set to return to training before the end of the year after undergoing surgery on his right shoulder following his defeat to Floyd Mayweather Jr in boxing's richest-ever fight in May.

Pacquiao had acknowledged that welterweight Khan was a potential opponent for his comeback bout, but the Briton's hopes have been dashed with speculation growing that Pacquiao has set his sights on a rematch with Mayweather Jr, despite the American's retirement following 49 unbeaten fights.

Khan - who sparred regularly with Pacquiao when the pair were trained by Freddie Roach - has revealed their advisors met in Doha last week but were unable to reach an agreement.

The 28-year-old told The National: "I'm really disappointed in Manny and his team. They aren't playing ball. All that was left to do is to sign the contract. But they are stalling.

"I have pulled out of the negotiations. I am no longer fighting Manny Pacquiao.

"They know I am a tricky fight for him and they know I will beat him. Or else, why pull out of a fight when there is a lot of money on the table?

"I don't really know if Mayweather is fighting Pacquiao again. It is a possible reason for him to stall on signing the contract, but I don't really know."

Khan is now looking at alternative options for a fight early next year, including Sheffield's IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook.

"I am not going to wait around for Manny like I did for Mayweather," he added. "I need to fight and if they don't want to fight then that's fine, I have other targets.

"I already had a back-up plan drawn up in case the Pacquiao fight didn't go to plan. We are looking at a Danny Garcia rematch. I also would like to fight Tim Bradley; that's another interesting fight.

"A rematch with Lamont Peterson and, of course, Kell Brook is also another option.

"I am willing to fight anyone, but it seems not everyone is willing to fight me."

i didn't think this fight would happen anyway but will be interesting days now it seems that kell brook is finally worthy!! lol

also seems like he will fight garcia too, hope both of these fights happen but i really don't see khan winning either.

if he was going about fighting people bigger and better than brook I would think fair enough for not facing him but there really is no excuse, also Khan fans love the "but brook doesn't fight tough fights either" excuse but Brook is begging Amir to get into the ring with him so its kind of beside the point

Without Mayweather or Manny who is the biggest money fight out there for Khan?

Brook no brainer, except Brook is not a blown up LWW.

Brook and Khan are at their fighting peak years...one wants it,one is chasing fights that he really hasn't warranted.

Thing is Bob seen Khan keen to fight Manny and knows that him and Hunter know Manny there for taking and don't want Khan to use him as stepping stone and basically finishing Manny career once and for all..

People who think Khan was only fighting Manny for payday are stupid, Khan really wants to fight the best..

I really hope it's Garcia and then Brook to shut the haters up..

And when Khan beats them, then what yous going to say??

Khan will beat both of them..

One day he will hopefully understand that neither of the big two aren't fussed about him and he moves on and fights a brook or a Garcia or even thurman as that is his level

I am looking at the list of opponents since he lost to Garcia and this I wanna only fight the best argument really doest stand up.

Amir khan always claims this but hey his last fight was against Chris Algieri.

I don't expect to see him fight Garcia next. More likely to be Robert Guerrero with khan then claiming that everybody is avoiding him.

Khan really does need to understand that the fans didn't cry for Floyd to fight him and don't care if pacman fights other people.

He isn't a big name in the states either.

Also there waiting to see if the mayweather fight materialises
Don't blame Khan for not waiting like he did for floyd

A Pac fight was never going to happen.

Whatever happens next Khan has got to face a Garcia or Thurman level of opponent next or I will have to agree with those who say he is irrelevant.

If Khan doesn't fight Kell, Bradley or the winner of Thurman/Porter in his next fight, he can get f*cked.

    Bradley in January

    Thurman/Porter winner in March

    Kell in July/August

If he did that AND won all of them then he's the fighter of the year and the best welter on earth.

F*ck Garcia. Danny won't take the fight anyway.

    Peterson fight is worthless.

Khan NEEDS the VERY BEST welters now.

Hopefully he wises (or man's) up and forgets about Manny & May and concentrate on the rest of the division.
