Clinton - i got no real problem with it, benitez is bigger than floyd tho.

that's a bit strong imo, he did beat cotto and canelo who are about to fight for the lineal 160 belt, and hamsho, while a bad matchup for floyd, was no monzon or hagler.

As I explained in an earlier contri, the reason I started this thread is because there are recent comparisons between Mayweather and Benitez, so I believe it's a legitimate question in that context. Whereas it's true that I don't like Mayweather, I most certainly don't 'hate' him (whew, lol). Quite frankly I wasn't a fan of Hamsho when he was on the go either.

Mayweather likes to fight off the ropes in some instances, but wasn't totally in love with it like Benitez, who prided himself so much on his ability to fight off the ropes...
I'll go against the grain and pick Floyd despite the size disadvantage...He is going to score the cleaner punches, and Mustafa will be missing at distance...if the ref allows inside fighting then Hamsho is in business...it would be close.Again, Mayweather's defense is key, and he has good enough defense even on the inside. If Kenny Bayless is the ref, and helps extricate Floyd from some messy clinches and infighting, then it's Mayweather hands down for me.
Hamsho is ultra tough, but he is not a hard hitter...and
Floyd did share the ring with a rehydrated Canelo at I think around 168 or so...apples and oranges I know...but still I'll take Mayweather.

I'll take Floyd. Hamsho was only 5'8 and Floyd has seen plenty of southpaws. He also easily beat a guy who was roughly as big and possibly better than Hamsho. He'd also beat Davey Moore.

Btw Demetrius Andrade is a southpaw around that weight who would be a bigger problem than Hamsho

Kind of a ridiculous match to begin with if truth to be told. Sort of like putting Hagler up against a cruiserweight Holyfield.

Alvarez was apparently 165 pounds when he got in the ring with Mayweather.
    Was Hamsho much bigger ?

Being temporarily bloated with fluids isn't the same as consistently weighing and fighting at a designated class.

Canelo is the same size as Hamsho and better in almost every facet of boxing. He would be fighting at 160 if we still had same day weigh-ins.

That's an agenda driven statement. There's little doubt that Canelo dries out to Jr. Middle and fights naturally in the 160-170 range. There's nothing temporary about it.

Like hell it is.. Its a fact.. And if you say that a 154 canelo consistently fights at 160 + then its very likely that a 160 Hamsho probably fought at 170 or more come fight night...

Nah.. First of all I wouldn't even call Floyd a natural welterweight.. He began his career a few divisions below and took years to get to that point and by the time he did he was already close to thirty. And Hamsho wasn't exactly unskilled.. I'll concede my comment about it being comparable to Hagler fighting a cruiserweight holyfield but it would still be a cruiswerweight nonetheless and likely a very good one..

Same day weigh ins. Canelo and Hamsho fought 6 pounds apart on the scales. That's close to zero pounds of difference in fight night.

You don't know how much Canelo ways we fights for a fact and furthermore it still isn't the same as being a natural in that class.
