I always felt like we have some powerful women that could be top PPV draws. Also, female boxing is entertaining in my opinion. So, why don't we have a top female boxer thats in the mainstream?
Stay on topic this is about FEMALE BOXERS and why they aren't pushed as mainstream athletes. I don't wanna here bout no WWE or any of that crop.
The fact that a female is the face of MMA just tells you how pathetic the UFC is atm a side effect of getting all his top male athletes retired, injured or busted for being ped cheats
The closest we've had in boxing is probably Laila Ali or Christy Martin, but they never had the popularity Rousey currently seems to have. Rousey's PPV numbers dwarf that of Ali's PPV fight with Jackie Frazier. But even in MMA Rousey is an anomaly and not the norm. I guess it would take the right female boxer to cross over like Rousey has. Rousey had the advantage of coming from a fighting background like Laila Ali but Rousey also had the advantage of being a medal winning Olympian she was seen as a serious athlete unlike other female MMA fighters and previous female boxers as only since 2012 has female amateur boxing been an Olympic sport. Maybe when we have Olympic level female amateurs coming through the pro ranks we will then see female boxers taken more seriously as genuine athletes and even then it will take a character like Rousey will the great back story and media savvy to cross over.
1. Women's boxing sucks. 2. Mens boxing has a long, rich history and huge depth of talent compared to MMA so boxing fans don't need inferior womens boxing to builk out as it were, the entertainment. 3. Part of the mystique of combat sport is watching somone who is a fighting machine that could easliy kick yours or anyone elses @ss. So it's hard to sell women fighting when many of the guys sat watching from their coach know the people fighting couldn't even pose much of a threat to them. Same even applies to the really low weights in mens boxing. 4. Lots of UFC fans are WWE fans and just follow the hype, which relates back to number 2. 5. Women's boxing sucks.
Because boxing hasn't stooped to the level MMA has. Promoting female fighting as equal, and just as good as the real thing while forcing it down the throats of the masses.
People buy what they are told to. No one is out there pushing womens boxing. UFC saw a business opportunity, exploited it and now the people buy.
