PBC is drawing worse ratings than Andre Ward

I don't care about ratings as long as good fights are on .

 

The PBC alone is staging four cards in five days this week. It began last night. Devon Alexander-Aaron Martinez and Lee Selby-Fernando Montiel fight tonight. Fonfara vs. Cleverly meet on Friday night. Lamont Peterson-Felix Diaz fight Saturday afternoon before the Golovkin PPV.

Fonfara-Cleverly will be the best/most competitive fight of the week ... and I'm including every fight on the Golovkin PPV.

Boxing is in the midst of a boom. There is boxing being televised nearly every day of the week. I follow boxing and didn't even know anyone named O'Connor fought last weekend. Between doing stuff with my family, I was flipping between the Jorge Linares card on ESPN3 Saturday (a show that seemed like it would never end) and three college football games.

There's a card tonight. There's one tomorrow (Parker-Meehan). There are a couple on Friday night. There's one Saturday afternoon. There's one Saturday night. If you miss a PBC card, they post them on their YouTube site. If they aren't on there, they post them on the Spike TV site. If they aren't on there, they post them on the Fox Sports 1 site. You can see everything.

WHO CARES who is getting paid what. Who cares if the ratings are 3 million for one show, and 250,000 for another show and 1 million for another show. It isn't costing you a dime. And the guys who don't draw won't be on TV next year (that's how it works).

People who point to ratings of a non-descript feature like that and say PBC is dying are not just idiots but they are the people no one wants to be around, because they have nothing positive to say about anything.

If a fight ends quickly, it's a mismatch. If it goes too long, it's boring. If it's a fight of the year candidate, it won't get picked fight of the year. If it's better than expected, then the favorite SUCKED. If the fight is good and the ratings are good ... the fighters made too much money.

There are fights on every day, and you're complaining. In a couple months, there won't be any boxing on because of the holidays, and you'll be *****ing about that.

Just shut the F*ck up already.

 

Yes, the guy staging four fights a week - and makes them available to everyone and pays the fighters handsomely - needs to fail.

And the guys who are charging $50 for a one-round fight this Saturday night and call the $50 price tag "a gift to the fans" should be running the show.

Haymon's working harder than all of them. Arum can stay in China. Nobody will miss him.

 

I don't mind PBC but you can't deny most of the fights have been subpar, it's a rarity you even get excited for a PBC match up because it's mostly mismatches. I guess that's common in boxing altogether nowadays but for PBC it is especially the case.

Most people have had their minds made up about the project before it even began but criticisms towards it aren't unfounded.

This isn't a race issue. It isn't a nationality issue. It isn't a network issue.

The American public, ie non boxing fans, do not want to watch guys fight like Floyd and pose for 12 rounds.

This is absolutely what is killing the PBC. There are fighters in the PBC that you can pretty much guarantee how the fight will turn out.

 

The PBC matches are the same matches that were airing on Showtime for the last few years when Showtime took over HBO in the minds of most fans as the best product.

Haymon made those fights and he's making these. But instead of just airing on Fridays and Saturdays on Showtime, now they're airing nearly every day of the week on just about every channel that carries sports.

And I'm not going to go thru a laundry list of the all the upsets and close fights that could go either way on PBC cards this year ... because there have been plenty. (Ask Marco Huck and Andre Dirrell and Peter Quillin for starters).

Frankly, I can't think of any Top Rank or Golden Boy cards this year where the main event was even betting odds or a pick-em fight. There is always a clear favorite.

For example, this PPV on Saturday is loaded with lop-sided mismatches (according to Vegas). But it's being hyped as one of the big PPVs to end the year.

Like I said, I think Cleverly-Fonfara is a better matchup and will be a far better fight. I'm excited for it.

 

It was a rhetorical question, I knew why, but I was hoping someone else would change my opinion, which I don't like having.

 

It's like in every sport you goin to have great games, one sided games, classics, corrupt officials, etc etc. I'm not goin to criticize Haymon without giving the man a chance Imo so far so good especially in an era of boxing where it seems the fights fans want are becoming almost impossible to make, so it's not completely Haymons fault, tho he is partially to blame. He has the right mindset about bringing boxing back to network tv, I applaud him for that, but the same backstabbing he did with Oscar and bad blood he has with Jay-Z, etc etc is coming back to bite him in the ass. Now that Gbp and Top Rank made their peace, Haymon needs to do the same if he really wants to see the full potential of Pbc. For now, it's understandable, you can't have great fights all the time, but as long as they don't become a trend. The point is draw casuals into boxing, but they won't be casuals for long once you turn them into hardcore fans and to do that you need to have can't miss fights. America needs to step up in quality of fighters too that's part of the problem too.

ENJOY this time right now. There were YEARS when you'd go six months and not see FIVE FIGHTS on television. You're getting that nearly every week.

 

GBP is the most crooked, mismatch promoting, fixed card having, fighter ripping off outfit of all.

Tell me exactly which boxing network is doing big numbers?
As I recall, the last big money/big number fight was Mayweather-Pac whose numbers and revenue generation made the Froch-Grove 80,000 in the UK look like a high school soccer match. atsch
