In the 50s HWs was just some pounds bigger than LHWs. Later the difference was bigger and bigger and now we have guys size of basketball players over 200 cm. What i am trying to say. Marciano was a small heavy too small for the guys in the 70s Ali, Frazier Foreman. If you compare him with Fury, Klitscho and Wilder Marciano would look like a dwarf !
So what if Foreman beat him.... It only took a 40 pound weight and 5 inch height advantage Hey guys..Kovalev could beat Mayweather too. Rocky is a light heavyweight in this era, and he beat Charles and Moore, two of the greatest fighters period while they were near their best.
Marciano would put Foreman to sleep. Foreman had no defense in his prime, which is why he admittedly ducked Earnie Shavers. Marciano fought a guy who was physically similar to Foreman: a young prospect named Carmine Vingo. Marciano put him in a coma: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4_LS0KVhlhM
Rocky could put George into unchartered waters, then... yes another drunken TKO. George had major stamina issues as Rocky survives several knockdowns and prevails
No. Moore was very effective at HW, moreso than he ever was at MW. He carried his one shot power and beat 15-20 contenders from the late 40s to the early 60s. Moore was only a MW because of a stomach condition that prevented him from gaining weight until he had surgery, and footage reveals him to be a very crude slugger at the weight. He has far more scalps and success at HW and looks superior via "eye test." Outside of his superior reach, Moore and Marciano were actually about the same height and weight. They were both really Light Heavyweights in today's "pre day weigh in".
George has said he ducked and was afraid of a lot of people. He said similar things about Joe Frazier who he destroyed twice. He's always been gracious towards his opponents ever since he became a Christian, it doesn't really mean much. Truthfully though he respected Shavers I doubt he was truly afraid of him, Shavers could no doubt hit like a freight train but his boxing ability and chin was suspect. George could get him out of there quickly, and probably would because there is no way he'd take a chance of him hanging around with that kind of power. And saying Marciano would knock out Foreman because he knocked out a guy who had some physical similarities is ridiculous. Vingo was a great prospect but no one really knew how good he could have been, he may have been a tomato can for all we know who a lot of guys could have knocked out. You can't compare him to a proven and powerful ATG two time heavyweight champion. You all just don't give the man's jaw enough credit. Foreman had over eighty fights and was knocked out once, more due to heat exhaustion than anything.
Almost every top heavyweight he saw he lost too. Don't be ridiculous. He lost to Ali, Patterson, Charles, and Johnson as well. All pretty easily.
Marciano would've exposed Patterson's chin before Johansen did.. wish they would've fought. He would've roughed up Liston badly too
Ali's own words said that Marciano could beat him. He said he might beat him...that is saying a lot. Ali had a tremendous amount of respect for Marciano. we can only speculate. the great match ups ....that never occurred.
Agreed. Guys like Holmes and Lennox would have rag dolled Marciano through how physically dominate they were compared to him (height, weight, reach etc).
I’m a huge fan of both guys but Foreman would be Rocky’s worst nightmare. Style wise Foreman is Rocky’s complete kryptonite.
