+1. I usually wind up playing devil's advocate on Ward, but c'mon...to actually wish serious injury or possibly death on him is sick, no two ways about it. Mods need to drop the ban hammer on that fool.
And, to the main point, this is terrible news and I hope Prichard recovers to lead as normal a life as possible.
Tragic. He was turning into a real prospect too. Hopefully he can make a recovery and have a normal life.
I don't think the rabbit punch had anything to do with it. He was caught earlier. By the time he was complaining about the shot behind the head he had already been buzzed. You could tell when he starting going downhill. He had a somewhat puzzled look on his face, like he didn't understand what was happening to his body. If you watch closely, at the end of a round, Williams tagged him and Colon didn't really even attempt to defend himself. This was well before the rabbit punch. No, something was not right about round 5. Candidly, I was very frustrated with the way Colon started holding and using delay tactics. But, in retrospect, I think it was because he knew something wasn't right. He wasn't willing to quit so he was doing all that he could to eek out the win, any way he could. I pray he is OK. Unfortunately, even if he does fully recover, I doubt they will allow him back in the ring. Let's hope he doesn't try. A real shame.
I'm glad I missed this one then. So nearly watched it too. Really hope he pulls through and is going to be OK. :-(
You know its lucky referee did disqualify Prichard when he did. What would have happened if he'd been allowed out for the final round?? What were his corner thinking trying to get him out there? He looked spaced out poor guy Praying he makes a complete recovery
Do you guys think anything could have been done to prevent this? I sorta wonder if he was sparring/fighting at high frequency and it was just too much to have a big fight in there as well... It could be just a freak accident or maybe it was the rabid punches? Prayers aren't enough, if we truly care we should see if there is anything that can be done to prevent this in the future...
Wasn't wishing that on ward or anyone, just saying that is his likely future if he gets in the ring with GGG or kovalev due to him fcking them both around pretending that he wants to fight.
I've had 3 concussions, two in football and one a freak incident while I was playing ball in a gym, got knocked off balance, landed on my head and went into convulsions. I mention this because I know firsthand it can happen to anyone. Generally speaking, some people have more of a proclivity to concuss. It can happen to anyone at any time. The important thing is that they address it immediately, which was done. You can only hope he recovers. What I find most troubling, though, when I see something like this play out is how the corner responds. These guys are too ****ing caught up in future paydays. Yes, they are concerned about their fighter but they have an obligation to their fighter to thoroughly examine what is going on if he shows signs of a concussion. Too much is riding on it. Slurred speech, slowing motor skills, inability to focus, loss of equilibrium, etc. If the corners aren't going to do it, the doctors must. If boxing doesn't get more aggressive with this it is going to be banned.
UFC is more rough then boxing, these things happen. If the corners start throwing towels as soon as the fighters start getting dizzy, then the fans will start complaining that they're not getting their money's worth and the fighter's stock will go down because everyone will know he's not ready to go through the trenches without his corner getting involved on his behalf. It's the fighter's responsibility to listen to his body and know when to stop. Not boxing doctors to step in and rub their bellies to check if they are ok every single minute. This isn't badminton this is boxing, a gladiator sport.
Most of these guys were making fun of him thinking he was stalling because he wanted to quit. The guy knew something was wrong with his body yet tried everything he could to still win.. Boxing is an extremely brutal sport sometimes.
Couldn't disagree more. Some fighters will not quit, period. Many corners are so driven by money, they won't stop it either, if that means that they may lose out on future paydays. Doctors are the only ones who can make the tough decisions. Good corners will too but unfortunately a lot of them are not good.
