 Ward was not a better amateur than Golovkin.

    Ward's record 114-4

    Golovkin's 345-5 or 345-8

    Ward's amateur accomplishments

    Olympic gold 2004
US National champ at MW in 2001
US National champ at LHW 2003

    Golovkin's amateur accomplishments

World Amateur Championships gold medalist 2003 (the World Amateur Championships are just as difficult to win, if not even more so, than the Olympics)
    Olympic silver medalist 2004
World Junior Championship gold medalist (at LWW) 2000
Silver and bronze medalist at the World cup (team competition) in 2002 and 2005 respectively
Gold medalist at the Asian games and Asian championships in 2002 and 2004

I have no idea how many national championships he won

And listen to what Virgil Hunter said about how he deliberately kept Ward out of competing in major international tournaments and European duel meets so that they had the element of surprise on all his rivals come the Olympics.

''I never let him [Ward] go to the World Games (think he might mean the World Championships). I never let him go to the Pan Am Games. I never let him go to the Goodwill Games. I never let him go to any European duel meet because I didn't want them to get a tape on him. Because I never heard in professional boxing the world champion, the Goodwill champion, all I heard was bronze, silver or gold medalist. So I knew that you wasn't going to figure him out in 4 x 2 minute rounds and I knew they weren't going to take him serious because of his size and by the time they did take him serious it was too late.''

I agree, but wins over Froch and Kessler are by far better than any win GG has. GG hasn't really beaten anybody yet.

I just wish that Chad hadn't been drained when he fought Ward. Had he have beaten a healthy Chad, that would have been a great win for him.

Ward is a better pro that's what he is better at that can't be refuted. :deal With that said, Ward's Gold in the Olympics trumps anything GGG did as an amateur.:hi:

No they aren't. They're proven fighters at world level.

Both Froch and Kessler have had very good wins.

Without being disrespectful, guys like Lemieux haven't done anything.

    Euro level boxers?

No it really doesn't trump anything Golovkin did.

    1 x World amateur champion + 1 x Olympic silver medalist + World Junior champion >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> 1 x Olympic gold.

It's not even open for debate. Neither is 345-5 or 345-8 vs 114-5

Don't let the typical Serge essay of copy and paste filler give you the illusion of clarity and legitimacy. Post sucks.

Ward is one of the greatest amateur boxers ever. Golovkin is not. Simple as that.

I think it's too early for those kind of predictions.

by acomplishments and the fact that ward is smw/ now lhw i would still lean towards him. It's just that we haven't seen enough (yet) of GGG. I think more people will favor him as more time passes. Ward hasn't fought any top competitor in years though. I want GGG to clean out MW in 2016 and maybe look for a fight with ward in 2017.

I used to think you were actually a decent poster but post like this make me re-valuate that opinion.

    :rofl

He won a gold medal in the Olympics after his coach deliberately kept him out of competing in major international tournaments and duel meets so no one could get any tape on him and his rivals wouldn't take him seriously.

''One of the greatest amateurs ever'' :rofl

And he didn't even deserve to win his gold medal after the way he cheated in the semi-final. Excessive holding with a capital E and H got him that very narrow 2 point win. It was scandalous. :patsch

Ward fought Dawson three years ago. Even if people want to throw in the horrendous cop out of Dawson being drained, it's a top competitor and a top win. Who in that time frame has Golovkin fought and beat that was or is at that level? I am struggling to even think of someone that could rival a Dawson that would have to make 160 lbs let alone the Dawson that fought Ward.

That Olympic Gold is what GGG would trade over all his other accomplishments as an amateur.:deal And Ward once again holds something over his head.:rofl

Audley Harrison won an Olympic gold, I'm sure Golovkin would trade his amateur career and accomplishments for his too.

Pimp C says Audley Harrison was also a better amateur than Golovkin too. :rofl
