Is Chris Mannix of Sports Illustrated similarly biased? He says Fight Hype's numbers are similar to what he's heard. https://twitter.com/ChrisMannixSI/status/656604397548535809
Floyd vs Berto did abuffy. So its quite possible that when everything is tallied up it will come under 200k ppv buys.
This is very similar to the Hopkins vs Dawson PPV which did 75k in sales, and Hopkins was never seen on PPV again...I dont think GGG will be on PPV without a Viable OPPonent like Cotto, Ward or Canelo... Thats it... Fights with Lee, quillen, Jacobs, sunders, eubank Jr, will have to be on network television from now on..
Mayweather is a huge PPV star, and though hes not very liked, people still buy his PPVs to see him Lose.. Truth of the matter is Cotto, Canelo and Pacquaio are Bigger PPV draws then GGG... Theres still Casuals who dont know who GGG is...
And like Hopkins-Dawson, this fight was also a case of a PPV being necessary due to HBO's budget being shot, not because it was actually a match-up that warranted PPV. Though I guess that fact runs counter to the notion that someone already in a position to inherit the title as the next big draw in boxing was why this was a PPV event.
Fights like those won't happen because the purses demanded by these opponents to make them fight GGG would be so great that they'd have to put it on PPV or not be able to make it at all.
Maybe GGG should start going around bragging how good he is and what he will do to his opponent. Atleast we know he can back it up unlike iv boy.
It don't take long to count a few thousand dollars as opposed to counting millions. Hell, I could've counted that take in a couple of hrs.
I think it's a good idea for testing the waters. He won't become a huge sell until he fights Alvarez. After that he'll probably sell alright but nothing tremendous. Not enough competition/exciting personalities around his weight class. The Kazakh fanbase isn't exactly Mexico or Puerto Rico.
El Chicano reminds me of a creepy old guy who constantly attempts to write in a hip youthful manner poorly using trendy lingo in an effort seem like he's one of the cool kids to push his agenda hoping no one will be any the wiser. No one's buying your "ish" lil Boosie, so tell us which writer for the site are you?
Is this even a serious question ??? Floyd has been cherry picking for years selecting limited brawlers and avoiding smart boxers. The good opponents he fought were way past their primes. Berto fight was a disgrace for somebody calling himself TBE.
