Kessler is Joe's signature win at SMW in what was a competative fight, so Calzaghe fans were desperate for Kessler to win the S6 as this would reflect favourably on their hero. So when a green Ward showed how a real elite skill level fighter deals with someone like Kessler, putting Calzaghe's abilities into perspective in the process, they were very upset and are still crying about it six years later.

Kessler was a very good win for both. Trying not to let hindsight taint my view of things......

When he fought Calzaghe, he was the only real obstacle in the way at the time for it to be said that Calzaghe was THE man at the weight. He was riding a wave of victories and popularity, and gave Calzaghe a good, competitive fight, but Calzaghe was better. Rumors of an injury abound(not sure how true, snd hoe much of a factor), but I'm not one to make excuses for a fighter. If he fought, it's something he thought he could cope with.

Ward's win may have been more impressive, and surprising, as he completely outclassed the tournament favorite. But historically speaking, Calzaghe's had more impact. The win vaulted Ward onto the top of the division for years to come. Unfortunately inactivity has setback what could have been an ATG SMW career. There is no doubt the headbutts played a factor in the fight with Kessler, but Ward was outclassing Kessler before the butts. Kessler could not cope with Ward's speed.

You think Andre deserves to still be on that it any other top ten list after his inactivity and choice of opponent over ye last few years? You need help. I mean look, you're trying to big up Abraham at SMW.

He wasn't injured when he fought Calzaghe.

He had contractual disputes after fighting Calzaghe which kept him out of the ring for years.

He did get injured against Ward.

After the Ward fight in Ward's hometown, Kessler's injury kept him out of the ring for long periods after it resurfaced against Froch.

Ward had as much experience going up against Kessler as Calzaghe did when he challenged for a title, when you consider Ward's amateur background.

he was injured before getting in the ring with joe

that's why joe gt in the ring with him. otherwise he runs like a gibbering cowardzaghe, wouldn't go anywhere near kess, and as soon as Kessler healed up joe wasn't interested in a rematch under any conditions, ditching kesslers old titles to prevent any clamour for a rematch.

he was injured, tough if you cant stomach it.

joe waited 9 years for a decently able major title holder to get injured and pounced fast when it happened.

I'd like to see the case for and against Kessler being injured.

From what I recall, Kessler claimed he wasn't injured, but is that in the same way Sergio Martinez claimed he wasn't injured?

There were also claims that Kessler could not spar or train properly because of an injured hand, but is that just an excuse, after the fact?

As for Ward having the same experience....... You guys can't have it both ways..... Calzaghe had been pro for well over a decade when he fought Kessler, had been a titlist for a decade....... You can't claim that all those defenses, the long wbo reign, and remaining undefeated are such a tremendous accomplishment, and then liken it to the experience level of a 3 or 4 year pro due to his amateur background.

I've been critical of Calzaghe's level of competition over those years, but with all those pro bouts and defenses I find it hard to reconcile with the idea that a 3 or 4 year pro, who was stepping up in a big way for the 1st time is equally as experienced.

    Only in Calzaghe-land.

Stomach it? You've lost the plot. There are lots of posters on these boards who don't rate Calzaghe in comparison to other champions and that's fair enough but your obsessed drivel is next level craziness. I don't take anyone who persistently refers to a professional boxer by a ridiculous nickname only nut jobs use seriously. Examples of this are Bumlovkin, Pacroid, Fraudweather and Cowardzaghe. There are more but you get the point. Now get a grip and start acting like a fully grown man.

It goes in the record books as a calzaghe leftover, this is a fact. I'm sorry.

Calzaghe lost no more than 3 rounds on every card. I must dispute your alleged fact of a close UD, re****.
