This info was released the past week. As it stands: The WBC stands firm on their mandate that the Canelo/Cotto winner must fight Gennady Golovkin next. No voluntary unless both parties come to an agreement. Mauricio Sulaiman said, "The Canelo/Cotto winner must fight Golovkin. . . this would be one of the biggest fights in boxing. Golovkin has demonstrated exactly why he is at the level of being considered one of the two best fighters in the world." Sulaiman says the Canelo/Cotto winner versus Golovkin bout could take place in March or April, but the likely date would be Cinco De Mayo in May. (Unless of course Mayweather/Pacquiao 2 happens on that date...) Though ODLH and Canelo have been willing to fight Golovkin, there's been skepticism that Cotto would. If the fight is competitive, there will be a rematch. You can count on that, despite what the WBC talking heads are saying.
I would really like to see the WBC strip a Mexican, especially of Canelo's caliber. I doubt it. These are the same people who gifted Chavez Jr and Morales a belt.
They can't stop a rematch, but the rematch would be without the title. Plus, I see Canelo KO'ing out Cotto, so I dont think you're going to see a rematch.
Money talks, bs walks. Who cares about a title nowadays? The winner of the fight will still be the lineal champ at 160. That's more legitimate than any paper title. Oscar is already talking about putting off a fight with Golovkin if Alvarez wins. I honestly think Cotto would fight Golovkin quicker than Alvarez with GB having a say. If the fight is not competitive it will be because Cotto gave Alvarez a beating. Alvarez simply isn't that good.
Uhm, Golovkin does...a lot... his dream is to become undisputed (which means he'd also be the only undisputed champ in boxing today). And, we'll see.
Winning titles obviously since he succumbed a good amount of his purse to get Lemieux's IBF title. I hope you realize he would take a 80/20 split against Canelo or Cotto to get that WBC title. He would give a lot. They've already said that. Realize becoming undisputed will end up making him a ton of money for many reasons like 1) the best champs will have to fight him and 2) it makes him more popular, sellable.
What title was involved with him fighting Chavez Jr. at 168? He was more than willing to make that fight.
No one at 160 at the time with a title would fight him, therefore he went to his second priority. Now, it's a different story. People with titles are willing/mandated to fight him. The order of his priorities thus follows. 1) Titles (becoming undisputed) 2) PPV 3) Breaking B-Hop's record 4) 168 It really is that simple.
lol If Golovkin could only land a Mayweather fight at 154 with the promise that he relinquish all his titles and never fight at 160 again, he would take that in a heartbeat and you know it. You should go into law. You would make a good advocate. Once you make your mind up it seems impossible for you to change it.
That **** ain't worth the paper it's written on. If Canelo beats Cotto they will not force him to fight GGG next you can book it. There will either be a rematch or he'll take a soft touch but one thing is for sure it won't be GGG next.
Great news. The winner must decide whether he actually wants to be a middleweight champ or not. This is the way to go. If the winner doesn't agree to fight GGG, then Tureano Johnson fight should be for the vacant belt, which fits since Johnson is ranked pretty high by the WBC as well.
I could see this happening if Cotto wins. I still believe Canelo will fight GGG. Man, riding off the PPV success of Canelo/Cotto and then Canelo/GGG on Cinco De Mayo? Talk about GGG's crossover fight. That'd be huge. Plus, it allows Canelo to steal back the Mexican Holiday.
