Nothing to be insecure about just don't like all this stuff about him taking over the sport and this was a great PPV. When anyone who knows boxing knew that this fight was a farce and wasn't PPV worthy. He should have fought Ward by now and we wouldn't even be having this discussion, win lose or draw.

    Nah, HBO regular. :deal

Thankfully this collapsed. Imagine if this got a million buys, they'd be conning us again and again with terrible mismatches.:patsch

What next, Gennady vs Wade on PPV? :tired

I'm surprised but not shocked. There is nothing to be embarrassed about in my opinion. Some fights just don't go across well, it happens.

Two fighters, neither American, in what most thought was a mismatch and the betting odds said was a mismatch.

Before it's said... Yes I know Canelo Vs Cotto will do huge numbers, both not American but they are high profile names and a huge support from the Mexicans and Puerto Ricans and both sets of fans a seriously passionate about boxing.

Golovkin needs to fight and beat a Cotto or a Canelo to boost his profile and somewhat justify his fights being on PPV. I look at the middleweights and there is nothing there for Golovkin competitively so he will struggle to generate numbers because people are not going to tune in to watch a total mismatch.

At this moment in time Golovkin is just too good for his own good at middleweight, his fights are not competitive. So ideally there would be a couple more "Golovkins" at the weight to see some great fights.

Also I am gutted about the poor numbers for Roman Gonzalez, I was hoping he would get more exposure.

I'm guessing that enough "casuals" feel the May-Pac and May-Berto PPV's were rip offs such that no PPV will get anyone other than hard core boxing fans for a while.

However I agree this should not have been a PPV. GGG's dancing partner wasn't big enough to make it so. He was a legit, belt holder opponent but 25,000 moose buying PPV's out of Canada wasn't enough to push the numbers into the big time.

Canelo-Cotto is a different story. Two big name boxers, huge Mexico-PR rivalry. If this doesn't do big PPV numbers then that whole genre of moneymaking is shot to **** and HBO, Showtime and the rest are in for a world of hurt.

so lets get this straight...fight did under 150k

so floyd...on a victory lap against a c level opponent in a fight that was barely advertised and promoted...did 3x what the great triple quack did in his debut?

way to go triple quack....yer about to be 34...what a superstar

Good point. Mayweather/Berto and GGG/Lemieux are good indicators regarding where casuals stand on PPV. But Canelo/Cotto will give us a legitimate gauge.

I'm pretty sure the vast majority that bought the fight are the true hardcore fans who love boxing, not the teeny bopping Mayweather/Pac crowd.

Yes or no to the following please:

Was FMJ vs Guerrero genuinely PPV worthy?

Was FMJ vs Ortiz genuinely PPV worthy?

Was FMJ vs Berto genuinely PPV worthy?

Was FMJ vs Maidana genuinely PPV worthy?

I'd argue that based upon your logic - that uneven fights/mismatches shouldn't be PPVs (I agree btw) then none of the above should have been. None of those guys had a prayer of winning in the eyes of the public.

You mean you were expecting Golovkin (from Kazakstan) and Lemieux (from Canada) to match numbers of Floyd vs. Gatti (both Americans), on American TV? Are you serious?

There was a thread made that was similar here before the PBF-Berto fight. The majority voted that GGG-Lemieux would do better PPV numbers than PBF-Berto. :deal

I'm pretty sure he's referring to the haymonhype article. I'll reserve judgement until I get some other sources reporting on the buys.
