Calzaghe got me into following boxing around the time of the Kessler fight. I think I was writing something about Wales and he was listed as a famous Welsh boxer (who I had never heard of) so I looked him up and watched the Lacy fight and I was really impressed. Tracked down all his other fights and liked his style.

    1. He throws awful, disgusting, ugly punches and I don't even care because he sneaks some seriously good ones in there as well.

    2. Boxing knowledge/ring IQ was second-to-none.

    3. Hell of a chin/recuperative ability, never buzzed for more than a second.

    4. Hell of an engine. Never once looked or acted tired, carried his speed and workrate through the entire fight.

    5. Underrated body puncher.

    6. Excellent jab.

    7. Amazing speed/quickness/agility. A lot of his combos were chops and slaps, but he also threw some really slick, speedy, hurtful combos. Even his slappy ones usually had a hard dig mixed in somewhere.

Basically an all-around excellent fighter who took his attributes (Speed/Stamina/Chin/Ring IQ) and made the most out of them. Shame his resume is so thin and his era was so weak. Would have loved to see him in with Froch/Ward/Golovkin/Kovalev/Stevenson today. I'd pick him to beat them all, and easily with the exception of Ward who nobody will ever have an easy time with.

Because a lot of times I talk all kinds of insane **** to people, but then when they own me, I put them on ignore. That way I don't have to have it slammed in my face how stupid I am all the time. And just like a little kid, I keep posting the fact that there on ignore when I see that they've posted, hoping and praying that they actually care. I am a sad sad man:|

A big problem with Calzaghe is that he still casts a shadow over SMW and LHW, due to his length of reign at SMW and dominance.
Consider Wards best win is unwell, rusty, past best, double vision suffering Kessler, and that version of Kessler beat Froch, yet Calzaghe beat Kessler when undefeated and prime. Thats the dominance, all roads lead to Calzaghe.
Look at most of the top SMWs and they have a loss that dates back to Calzaghe down the line.

    Kovalev, Stevenson, Ward, Froch

Arguably the 2 biggest names at LHW and SMW respectively.

So what do they all have in common?

Well if you look at the top 3 wins for all, one of their best wins has been a faded opponent that Calzaghe beat when prime, yet ESB fanboys rate those as top wins and then say Calzaghe didnt beat anyone . The ESB self pwnage is unbelievable

Well it does appear that way.
I recall something being said when Calzaghe was facing Hopkins and it was mentioned to Enzo that Hopkins was going to have Freddy R in the corner and Enzo said something like it wouldnt matter if he had Freddy Krueger with him.

Looks a great read. All his big fights in one place, a documentary, and the type of butthurt only Zaggers could bring before Gennady came along. See you even managed to slip in the Newbridge Assassin
