No. GGG is the mandatory so it won't be on Canelo's terms and he can't dictate the weight for a Mandatory fight. If it was an optional sure but it isn't. Canelo has to fight him or lose the belt. Canelo would get savagely KOed. He knows this, Oscar knows this, and Mauricio Sulaiman knows this. This will eventually have to come to a resolution and the Cotto-Canelo winner won't be able to run forever. The most disgraceful act would be dropping the belt that would be worse than getting brutally KOed.

Canelo shouldn't be able to demand a CW if he wins the title, and I'm hopeful that he won't be allowed.

If WBC wants to do business in the U.S., they will have to obey a court order.

K2 is owned by Klitchkos, and Wlad is interested in the WBC belt too, so they will likely want to force WBC to follow rules in this case to avoid similar issues at HW.

This makes me so ****ed off.

If it is a unification fight, it is at 160. PERIOD. The WBC Lineal MW Champ has NO right to drain his mandatory for a unification of all four belts at some stupid 155 catchweight. That is the biggest load of bull I've ever heard from Canelo's mouth. I expected it from Cotto but not Canelo. Lost a lot of respect.

There'd be nothing wrong with winning the MW title at a CW, and then refusing to defend it at the limit?

    Cool.

None of that applies since it is a Mandatory fight. Won't be able to threaten with a catchweight so it is either fight or drop the belt.

    I agree 100%

If Canelo beats Cotto then drops the belt, it would be an absolute joke.

I'm 35, but God knows what the older fans who watched boxing in the 70's and 80's think of this.

Ban catch weights for title fights and bring back the same day weigh-ins.

The problem people here seem to be forgetting is that the WBC doesn't give a damn they're a dirty organization and are extremely biased. They will do their hardest to protect Canelo they know he's a cash cow and can make a lot of money off of him instead of GGG who's not. I'm a PBF fan you knows this look at how the WBC let PBF get away with murder ignoring mandos and keep the belt why? Because he was the cash cow.:deal At the end of the day money talks and I don't believe they will strip Canelo they will come up with something just watc, probably some diamond or platinum belt or something like that.

I agree. But, if Cotto can demand MWs fight him at a CW...Canelo who is an even bigger star (and has never fought at 160) most likely can. Again, GGG said he could make 154. That could be used against him.

Correct me if I am wrong, but, Canelo would remain the lineal champion (assuming he wins against Cotto) even if he and GGG don't fight. And it would be the biggest fight, revenue wise and in terms of exposure, for GGG. The kid will hold all the cards. GGG can either balk or make weight.

I really hope that you're wrong. But as Bob Dylan once famously said:

    "Money doesn't talk, it swears."

While I have no doubt the WBC will give preferential treatment to a Mexican Fighter they have painted themselves in a corner making GGG the mandatory. Sure they could let Canelo make a few optionals first but in the end he is eventually going to have to fight GGG and because of the Mandatory status they won't be able to institute a catchweight. I am not sure Canelo would be able to keep the belt anyway at 160 anyway he isn't that good to begin with and he won't carry his power up to the full 160 limit and he isn't a puncher as it is.

Dropping the belt would the worst possible thing for either guy there is nothing more cowardice than that.

I don't know the specific rules, but from reading some of these recent comments, it appears that he wouldn't be able to demand a catchweight.

    I just hope they're right.

For an optional fight? Maybe. Won't happen in a Mandatory though. Sorry.
