Hagler - Duran Scorecard

I think Duran did well and kept Hagler at bay, I had Hagler the winner by 2 -3 rds but some rounds were close so 8-6-1 or 9-6 Hagler or in that ball park, I haven't watched it in a while...I was more impressed with Duran former lightweight than Hagler a true 160lber

This is one of those fights (and there are several) that make me wonder about Hagler. I think the guy was mentally weak and would have had problems with some of the elite MWs of all time. He was seemingly psyched out by Duran. He certainly gave him WAY more respect than he needed to, and even after the fight said something about him being the best boxer or smartest fighter he ever fought. He seemed psyched out by Antuofermo in both fights. He pulled that monumental ***** against Leonard by fighting the first four rounds as a righty... I dont know. I cant figure this guy out. He demonstrated at times that he was clearly better than those performances but mentally he made some really odd choices in fights that came back to bite him in the ass.

 

Again, I think 9-6 is about right... Maybe a 9-5-1

 

Sensible post, all this other BS about 10 - 5 or 11 - 4 is just that, BS. Some people just don't seem to understand what they are watching. Thank f^^k fights have official judges as opposed to internet numpties, scoring for who they think " should " win.

Funnily enough where Duran is concernerd the same few fools are always loathe to give him any credit, claiming both Hagler, and Leonard fought the WRONG fights against him apparently.:rofl:rofl

 

Have you worked out who won round 3 in Leonard / Hearns 1 yet?:roll::roll:

 

so 9-6 is fine but 10-5 can only be made by someone who doesn't understand what they are watching? that's truly ridiculous.

 

I think I had it 10-4-1 Hagler. Maybe 9-5-1. Certainly not as close as the judges had it.

 

I thought Hagler won it by a point or two.Close fight.

Hagler had trouble throughout landing significant blows.

 

At the time, Roberto Duran was the big star in the midst of a comeback.

Hagler was a respected champ, but he wasn't a star by any means. Boxing fans knew him. Whereas Duran was a household name.

Duran had fought on closed circuit many times (against Leonard twice, Cuevas, Benitez, Moore, etc.) and he was the big draw.

This was Hagler's first big closed circuit fight as the main event and he seemed a little overwhelmed by the event. While Duran was outmatched, he knew how to play to the crowd and the judges. And the judges seemed to go right along with him.

Hagler should've won by much larger margins. He was the clear winner. But it wasn't one of Hagler's better performances.

 

I want to see some scorecards from those who thought it to be a close as the officials.

 

My countryman Ove Ovesen was one of the judges. He claims that he was never on the wrong side of a split decision in his 35 years as judge. ( I might think that he was wrong only once).
He scored as he saw it - Hagler won close, what is the big deal?
Personally I had it something like 9-6 Hagler.

 

He scored it 144-143 = seven rounds Hagler, six rounds Duran, two even.

That's pretty tight. He only gave Hagler seven of the 15 rounds (not even half).

 

It's a theory, but I had him winning all those fights anyway.
This possible/alleged "mental weakness" was nowhere to be seen when he faced Hearns (a man who had slaughtered the same Duran Hagler was supposed to be in awe of), or when he faced Minter (who had beaten Antuofermo) or a whole host of other fighters.

 

No big deal but a lot of us here are saying it really was not close.
