Added a poll now, GGG-Ward but I don't think Lee-Golovkin would be put on a PPV (or at least I hope not). I think Canelo/Cotto-GGG would be on a PPV and that's what I'd vote for if you've also included that.
Right now, I'd say Stevenson vs Kovalev by far. Ward needs to establish himself again but he's getting really lame tune up fights. It'd be great for him if he could land a Pascal fight.
It has to involve Golovkin, so Ward or Lee, probably Ward since he's American. Kovalev, Ward, Stevenson aren't doing PPV numbers in the US.
Well, Cotto and Canelo, while not at the Floyd and Pac level, can draw fairly well on their own star power. I consider them "2nd tier", if you will. So any fight involving them, or the 1st tier, or a combination of those 2 tiers would do better than anyone involved in any match-up excluding that group. And I assume you meant Golovkin-Ward?
How? GGG is much more popular than Kovalev. I think that one, for as good a fight as it is would not do big numbers, Kovalev struggled to sell tickets in his last fight, Ward we know isn't a very popular fighter.
I get what you're saying, and that might well be accurate. At the same time, I wonder if maybe Ward and Kovalev couldn't maybe be an instance of "it takes 2 to tango", where the whole is greater than the sum of the parts. But I still believe GGG-Ward would do the best of that bunch.
That was because it was in Vegas and evidently no one gives a **** about the Krusher in Vegas.:conf Who knows why. But the HBO show still pulled in 1 Million viewerd, and all of that can be credited to Kovalev since I'm pretty sure no one knew who Mohammedi even is. Most of the people on this site don't know who he is. Kovalev has a similar number of fans only without the fanfare as GGG.
Nah, I think PPV a lot of the time depend on the casual interest and this is purely a fight for the hardcores, neither of the guys are known to the casuals, GGG-Ward would do big mainly because of GGG and Ward has been built up as some sort of rival for him in the media, so it's a good sell. I actually think Stevenson-Kovalev would do better buys than Ward-Kovalev.
I think Kovalev is just as capable as being the one to emerge into the next star as anyone. Obviously Canelo, if things are properly orchestrated, is the big favorite, and also I believe the next big star will fall short of the mark set by Floyd and Pac. But I believe Kovalev, Golovkin, and a few others that include Ward are still in that race, and we will have to see which way things break before having a clearer picture. While Canelo will be the immediate filler spot for this position should he beat Cotto, I don't think the dust is apt to quickly settle on this matter, with Cotto probably not hanging around much longer, and Canelo being young, but vulnerable to possible losses in several directions.
