Who is responsible, for this guy being delayed and held back. Were there contractual problems? has K2 mismanaged his career, or did he belong to some other organization that stalled and hurt his career.

the man is 33 and time is running out, why has it taken until now to get this guy any recognition? where was he at 25, 26 27, 28, the prime years of a fighter, what a waste and who is responsible?

are the days of succeeding on merit gone? WTF

He was building up a reputation as a KO machine and now he's maintaining it.

Sports Illustrated feature on him explained it in length, but Golovkin was trying to get out of his old promotional company because they were sheltering him basically and not allowing him to fight in America, on HBO, or any of the top fighters. They were holding back his career badly for years, so he sued them to get out of their contract and that took a while.

Yeah. His old promotional company was literally trying to sweep him under the rug. They only wanted to keep him in Germany and not let him fight anyone who'd get him good exposure. It was because they had another star that they wanted to protect and build, not sure of his name.

He didn't get out of the contract till about 2011, I believe. Signed with K2 and headed to America to control his own destiny a few years ago.

He was fighting in Germany for Universum, or one of the other big German based promoters. He had some exposure over here in Europe. Nothing massive that the casual might know, but the more hardcore fan knew of him.

Unfortunately, a mix of not being handled the best and other guys getting more exposure (Korobov was seen as a better prospect) GGG's rise went a bit unnoticed.

Jeff Lacy was a KO machine until ole Slappy Joe the Welshman smacked him up to a UD.
GGG is avoiding the slapping that Ward would give him for 36 minutes.

Universum screwed him over big time, read his Wiki page they explain it clearly. Because he was contractually stuck in a promotional unit which weren't interested in building him up properly and matching him up against good opponents, the promoter went under a few years ago and he signed with K2, nevertheless it's still been a difficult road to build up a no-name Kazakhstani dude with clearly very good skills, he's as low risk/no reward as it gets.

i don't think ggg will ever get as big as pac or floyd. he's up there in age, not enough fighters around his weight range to make big fights with.

Reminds me of Sergio Martinez, Margarito was his only fight in the states before his early 30's. Except Martinez was fighting 5+ bums a year in Latin America.

German mafia kept his stable mate Sturm away from GGG by making sure he was ranked low.universum promotions were scared of GGG so they bought him then locked him in a cupboard for a few years..it took GGG a few years to work it out..but in the meantime he went underground and trained like a sas soldier...creating a fighting machine like no one has seen..he studied old school boxers like SSR and Henry Armstrong and jack Dempsey. The more they caged him the more learnt and got better..By the time he made it to the states he was a killing machine. One day the whole story will come out on who GGG is and people will love him even more..The man is demonic on the ring what you see now is just playin with these guys..god bless anyone who brings him to the 12 round..

He was Sturm's mandatory for years, who was also promoted by Universum.

I made a post back about how they protected Sturm and prevented the fight from happening because they wanted Sturm to be the star, probably because he was German and GGG wasn't.

Was he intentionally held back because he wasn't German and Sturm was? Who knows, but they certain didn't do him any favors by refusing to put him in high profile fights.
