Charlie a great wee character but he has no chin, I can only say what I have seen from Lewis up close. Out of every Scottish fighter he's the one who sells the tickets therefor he's the biggedt chance. He's a tidy boxer . Learning also and has been in good company in sparring over st MGM,

I haven't seen much of Benson, wasn't overly impressed the time I did watch him.

But I get the impression he wants the fame more than the success.

Maybe, I can only say what I see and he trains like a demon, has a good team around him, for a young guy he promotes himself excellent, can be taken as he wants fame but in this game you need to sell yourself. Don't sell tickets don't get fights, it's that simple, and when a big opportunity comes all the promotion will pay off as I can guarentee the fight will be in the meadowbank. He's also brand new to speak too. Out of the lochend gym I believe Lewis and tiff have the best chance

lewis is a tidy boxer but where he will come unstuck is the fact that my wee sister hits harder than him, he has been very lucky with the amateurs in the last couple of seasons and imo he will not get anywhere near british level. i actually think that jason easton who boxed on the card friday night will be a better pro fighter. lewis won't get away with the constant holding like he did throughout his amateur career.

i agree that he is a nice lad but how much of him have you actually seen? have you seen him box amateur? were you over in marbella or you just getting your info from your brother ronnie?

listen I'm from edinburgh and want nothing more than lads from my area doing well but imo lewis paulin is a better prospect from edinburgh than steven tiffany and as said earlier jason easton will beat lewis benson in bouts of 6 rounds and over.

on getting bigh fights to edinburgh again i think that the edinburgh public needs to support their boxers more, i tried loads of mates to come to the show on friday but none of them even knew who josh taylor was! the edinburgh support for boxing is the worst in scotland imo

i think he would be light welterweight, he was only welter in the amateurs to stay away from josh taylor. regardless if its welter or light welter he won't make it imo he is a lovely boxer but no snap or power and will be bullied by strong journeymen.

I have seen him spar in lochend numerous times as well as sparring with Ronnie, I also seen the footage of him sparring malignaggi in which he was superb, I seen a few of his amateur fights also and went to his first pro fight. Seen a fair bit of him. Only just got to know how more lately and that's where my comment comes from he's a nice guy. Same opinion I put on boxrec about Connor law when he turned over, people thought he lacked that snap but he's getting stronger. I just feel that they have all the tools to do something and power comes the more they sit down on punches and adapt styles. I agree Edinburgh isn't ideal for ticket sales and dundee is very similar. They are very quick to check online when our boys are fighting boys with 50 losses and it puts them off, Ronnie mikey and Jamie are constantly judged. I agree regarding josh I feel he is the main star but he's also been given a better platform. Lewis will fight st light welter I'm sure and josh is obviously being fast tracked. Although it was a poor match up on Friday for me. Anyone with have a clue knew it wasn't going a round. Regarding Lewis Paulin he also sparred Ronnie few month back as did tiff and from my point of view tiff looks special. His work rate is different class, strong boy and also sells a good few tickets. Not all about fighting as Iv learned over the years.

I've watched steven tiffany since he boxed at gilmerton 10 years ago and although he is a good boxer he is far from special, he has been transitioning to the pro style for the last 4 or 5 years and during this time he has been beaten by joe ham pretty easily at the scottish championships every time they have met. if anybody is special at this time it is joe ham, i think steven tiffany will have a good wee career that will end with him being beat in a final eliminator for the british title. i just think he will struggle with the stronger bustling style because he can go into a shell and not fire back or he can be too gung ho and get caught easily. I still fancy lewis paulin if these 2 ever meet.

i also agree about the selling of tickets, it can really help when building a fighter but not as much as good management. what is the point in being able to sell tickets for shows when the manager can't get you fights against opposition.

Has there ever been a point in Scottish boxing where such a host of lads that were top of the Scottish amateur pile have turned over? Certainly makes for exciting times in the pro game up in Scotland but will also leave the Championships wide open for next year.

i totally agree!! it will be a strange open championships after xmas!!

i am actually really disappointed with lochend. they have always had a good amount of boxers at the semi/final stages at the scottish open but they seemed to have just turned all of their decent boxers pro and imo lewis benson and tommy philbin shouldn't be anywhere near a pro ring they just don't have the style in bensons case and with tommy philbin no matter how nice a lad he is i think that as a senior boxer he is no better than district level and will be shown up pretty quickly in the pros.

Have Lochend got any amateurs of note left?

Must admit I've never seen Phibin box, however i'd tend to agree with you on Benson. Hope he goes on to prove us wrong but just doesn't seem to have a style that he'll be able to adapt in the pros, can't imagine him sitting down on his shots and think he will end up being overwhelmed when he steps up.

they haven't much left of note mate, young lad mchale is a decent boxer and is senior now but like all good juniors you don't know how well he will adapt. they also have a good youth boxer tyler gibson who is the son of a lochend/scottish coach raymond gibson. tyler is a nice boxer but not much power but is still young!

other than those 2 their amateur team is struggling for class at the minute but maybe terry mccormack is planning to have more influence on the pro scene now than amateur. i always got the vibe that running up and down the country with young kids wasn't his love but more with coaching the higher end seniors and pro fighters.

I got told about this thread so I thought I would come on say a little piece then I will delete my account. I'm not going to come on here with a fake name like most of the people dissing boxers. I'm not here to get into a argument with anyone everyone is entitled to there opinion.

Firstly I had a good amature career I won 4 Scottish titles in a row in 2 weights, people will say I'm lucky that's there opinion but as long as the judges thought I won I was happy. I boxed all over the world for my country I've had ups and downs in the sport but it was a good journey.

People love to say I don't have a pro style?? What is a pro style?? Someone that walks forward and fights with the face? That's not me and will never be me. I've got a good style that will take me far in the sport and I won't take alot of punishment. Ask every boxer in Scotland what it's like to be in a boxing ring with me, people may think it's easy to hit me from outside the ropes but the don't understand untill there in there. I've sparred pros from all over the UK and everyone said I've adapted into the pros very nicely. Also paulie malinaggi was full of compliments after I sparred him.

People are always quick to criticise me but that doesn't bother me because I will prove everyone of you's wrong. I have a great team behind me and I am coached by the best coach in Scotland Terry McCormack anyone that doesn't agree with that is daft look at what he's produced over the last 5 years.

I don't know how far I will go in the sport but I believe I am good enough to win a British title at least. Pros and amatures are different but I believe I am more suited to the pros because of the pace and I get more time to pick my shots. Mark my word now if I ain't good enough to do anything in the pros I will quit I'm not in this sport to make up a bill I have a good job that I could always go back to.

I've got a massive support in edinburgh and I can tell you for a fact when the time comes for me to step up the ladder and challenge for a pro title it will be in my own back yard as I am under the best management MGM!

Anyway thanks everyone for a great read I love hearing what people think about me, I'm used to being doubted but I ask you one thing judge me at the end because the journey has just started.

If anyone want to drop me a message get me on facebook I don't speak to fake accounts hiding behind a internet name. Also my debut fight is on my facebook if you want to see it.

Last thing in my opinion the best prospect in Scotland is Stephen Tiffany the most talented boy I've been in the ring with in Scotland.
