Against anyone but Hopkins at LHW, he is the A-side. If he fights in Canada (not likely) it's a different matter possibly. If he becomes the man at 175, he is A-side against any would be challenger, including GGG.

MOST of the top fighters were in that tournament. Who didn't compete that should have...Bute? You saw what happened to him when he faced the second best guy in the SS. His wining streak and aura of greatness was likely prolonged by staying out of the SS.

 

Bute was considered a serious threat at the time, it's only after Froch Cobra'd him that he's lost his confidence and looked poor in his few fights since

there's a difference between cleaning out MOST of your division, and the ENTIRE division

 

Floyd would die laughing at you comparing Andre's star power to his own. The interest on Floyd's profits for the Manny fight alone would be more than Ward's made in the last 3 years

 

He "was considered a threat" until he faced a threat. Then all the threat talk ended. He is/was a good fighter. I'd like to see him make a comeback, honestly. But, he would never beat Ward.

I've never heard anything about Bute making an offer to fight Ward in Oakland. But, it would have ended in a loss for him. I'm sure of it.

Cleaning out doesn't mean beating everyone. It means beating everyone that matters. And Bute chose to not compete with the best fighters at SMW, but, instead took winnable fights in Canada for more money. I think he would have been been beaten multiple times in that tournament, before he even got to Ward. I'd pick Kessler and Froch to beat him. And I'd give Dirrel and Abraham a good chance of beating him as well, back then. That's of course in hindsight. The odds would have favored him in most of those affairs until he took a loss.

honestly though, I hope Ward finally wakes up and starts rebuilding himself, because he's doing himself more harm than good with his current antics

 

Of course he gets credit for it. It was, actually, one of his easiest fights. And Ward gets credit for beating the better guy, in Froch.

Ward's injuries and legal issues have used up his prime to some degree. But, he looks to be on the right track with this HBO deal.
