Well obviously, he is possibly the best athlete in the history of the sport. Only Holyfield comes close IMO. I can't single out one fight for which he was in nothing short of a stellar form which is commendable. But one should also consider that his style ages well, he doesn't take a lot of punishment, and he has high-tech conditioning, sport technology and knowledge as well as nutrition on his side which far exceeds that of any previous champion. He also might be roiding.
Resume is important when considering ATG status. If you want to do it H2H then your ten ten lists may look quite different.
I agree, resume is very important. The point I made earlier in this thread is that Wlad has a weak resume which consists of a lot of tomato can fighters who became ranked because they fought a bunch of tomato cans from eastern europe.
The problem with this argument is that weak eras are ten a penny, and dominant champions are very rare. Even in a weak era, somebody should have been able to dislodge him by now. You want to compare fighters from different eras, based on the most reliable and consistent measures possible, and these are their accomplishments relative to the field. For this reason, I think is important to give credit to any fighter who dominates their era, and legitimately bests the best available opposition.
Does it matter though? If there was a champion who had a good record, but was prone to being outpointed, Wlad could be getting the same results on paper. There is no less honourable way of winning, within the rules.
It isn't Wlad's fault his brother was the previous champ. At worst Wlad has been a top two HW for a decade going unbeaten in that time. At best he's been a top 1 HW for a decade going unbeaten in that time. His greatness is not in question at all.
Povetkin was a robbery. He also had no wins against anybody from the top 10 apart form his 12 rounds laborious decision win against Chagg years prior. Tony Thompson was a record padder and gave Wlad all sorts of problems. Haye was a domestic level Cruiser weight who never beat a ranked heavy weight apart from a faded and old Valeuv. What top 10 rankers was Valeuv fighting , let alone beating? Pulev beat nobody from the top 10 and never will going off his last fight against a 40 year old journeyman Wlad fought Chagg after Chagg failed the medical test to rematch Valeuv. The fight was even rejected by HBO Brewster knocked Wlad out in brutal fashion.
Show me a fighter that cheated and fouled his way through his entire unbeaten win streak? There isn't a team nor player that gets away with his level of foul play in the sports world. You have no standards as a sporting fan to give credit to the level terrible sportsmanship displayed by Wlad over the last 10 years. What sport are you watching where its acceptable to for one to bend and break the rules to stay on top?
So Wlad and Holyfield are the best 'athletes' in the history of the sport? What does that even mean? Its an insult to workhorses like Frazier and Marciano who worked harder at furious paces in one fight that Wlad has in his entire career. You rubbish the memory of guys like Jess Willard who beat the great Johnson over 24 rounds in blistering Cuban heat. What on earth are you talking about?
The Patriots arguably are the worst cheating team in sports. YOU should know sports a little better before you run your mouth.
Looks like Dino had a change of batteries, he's all juiced up and rarin' to go! Maybe he ought to lay an official complaint with the sanctioning bodies ...
