This is the same reason why Team Triple Duck is avoiding Ward and the ass whipping that is sure to come...

I don't like catch weights, not even for guys coming from two different divisions because the guy going down is typically the one at a disadvantage, and if you notice, it is still usually an a-side from a lower division asking a b-side to come to make the fight "fair" When it's actually just a good way to cover up for the advantage you are looking for.

All that said, I just accept the fact catch weights are here to stay, same division, different division, their all the same to me. One may look more understandable than the other but if you really think about it is still one guy getting an advantage over the other. As fighters typically fight at the max side of their division and so asking them to come down is getting an advantage. Catch weights are just another factor of the a-side b-side game, and a product of business as usual.

I also gotta say though if Cotto were to win and demanded a catch weight, it would be one of the most understandable catch weight requests I can think of in a long time. Cotto has had two fights at middle and you can just see how undersized he is for the division. Then on Gs end he just a beast at the division who just looks beastlier every outing. I mean, really, Cotto does not belong there at all, for Cotto to sign for G with no catch weight is just asking for a career ending beating. If G wants the fight I think 157 is about the best he's gonna be able to get out of Cotto, otherwise Cotto understandably drops the belt and goes on down to 154.

What Canelo and Cotto are counting on is that GGG will say NO.

When in fact, he's only saying no NOW, to bolster their confidence in not having to fight him.

When it comes to negotiating the contract, K2 will simply include a rehydration clause so Canelo can't outwieght GGG by 10lbs on fight night, and GGG will come in at a comfortabel 167 and Canelo will be the one drained at 170.:lol::lol:

I'm totally on GG's side and I think that he's totally overrated. there is no catch weight at 160. Don't try to you use A side leverage when you need an A side opponent yourself. History always judges you. They have or will judge Bowe, Ottke, Wlad and many others. They will judge the winder of Canelo and Cotto unless GG loses.

It's a mandatory for GGG. Weight will be at 160. If it was a voluntary defense then the weight could be negotiated, so it's a non issue here.

Are you sure that's a fact, that the weight absolutely cannot be negotiated even if they wanted? If so that's not good for G as they will either leave the division, or if possible (have no idea) have G relinquish or delay his mandatory status so that weight could be negotiated, but that's seemingly not a good a route for GG either.

    Cold Hard Facts:

Canelo weighted in 167.8 lbs 1 month before the fight at 154 lbs
Genady weighted in at 165 lbs 1 month before the fight at 160 lbs

Canelo re-hydrates to 172 lbs fight night, fighting at 155 lbs
Genady re-hydrates to 170 lbs fight night, fighting at 160 lbs

Canelo is 25. Genady is 33. (this is to address the growing body issue).

Make what conclusions your intelligence allows.

If the Cotto/Canelo winner says 155lbs or no fight then the fight will be @ 155lbs. Bumlovkin and his 150K PPV buys has no leverage...

Let me tell you why I hope Cotto doesn't win. He fought at a contracted weight of 159 against Martinez. Why I don't know. He fought at a contracted weight of 157 for Geale. And now he's facing Canelo at a contracted weight of 155 lbs. THIS IS FOR THE 160 LB ****EN LINEAL MW TITLE!!!

And I was troubled also when I heard that Canelo say that GG would have to fight him at a catch weight fight because he feels that he himself isn't MW size. Foh...

Could have sworn I have heard an interview with WBC prez saying it had to be at 160.
